The following are Idol-related odds and ends that happened this week:
>Following on the heels of Jennifer Hudson, LaKisha Jones will wed her fiance, Larry Davis, on Sun., Oct. 5 in Beverly Hills, Calif. Fellow Season 6 alums Melinda Doolittle and Gina Glocksen will also attend.
>Carrie Underwood will co-host the 42nd annual CMA Awards on Wed., Nov. 12, with Brad Paisley. Carrie will perform and is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year while her album Carnival Ride is nominated for Album of the Year. The awards will air on ABC at 8 p.m.
>Kellie Pickler was interviewed by AmericanIdol.com about the release of her sophomore album and her tour with Sugarland among other things. She also performed "Don't You Know You're Beautiful" on NBC's Today Show.
>The third season of American Idol Rewind premiered last Saturday with Season 3's New York auditions. This season of Rewind combines the third and fourth seasons of Idol.
>Justin Guarini announced on his weekly online radio show that he got engaged to his girlfriend, Reina Capodici, at Walt Disney World. They are planning a June 2009 wedding.

'AI Rewind' combines seasons 3 & 4?
At least they decided not to skip Idol's third season entirely for TV Guide Channel's American Idol Rewind. Instead, it will just be extremely abbreviated. Trifecta Entertainment, which is now in charge of distribution for the syndicated series, will air 22 episodes throughout its duration including a special on Carrie Underwood to cap off the season.
But it does not seem plausible that Trifecta understands what audiences want to see, as the episode breakup is as follows:

Five episodes of auditions for Season 3 and only two for the Top 12? Two!? Season 4, while better off, is still not getting full treatment, either. But it is not entirely a mystery why the layout looks like this. Hank Cohen, CEO of Trifecta, said the following of the upcoming season of Rewind:
"Stations are excited about the changes to the show, and Tracy is putting together a more complete book as we rewind the journeys of people that audiences care about."In other words, Cohen does not think audiences care about the finalists from Season 3. It seems like this whole season of Rewind will revolve around Carrie, and maybe William Hung will make an appearance, too.

'AI Rewind' to skip Season 3?
According to a blog entry post yesterday, Anthony Federov, Season 4's fourth-place finalist, said that the American Idol Rewind series will be jumping ahead to showcasing the fourth season of American Idol this fall, meaning the third season will be ignored by the syndicated program. Anthony said the following on his MySpace page:
They are skipping season 3 and going right to season 4. The best part of all, is that my season will be shown on FOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Were going back to prime time baby!!!!!!!!!! lolSince when have Nigel & Co. been so ashamed of the show's third installment? Just because it did not churn out a Carrie Underwood or a Daughtry does not give them the right to write it off and pretend it never happened. Does this mean we get to skip Season 6 as well?
You will see all of my performances again as well as all the brand new interviews that I'll be doing for the A.I. rewind.
So those of you that have missed watching me on TV on a weekly basis, will now have that opportunity again starting in mid August. You don't have to vote though, we all know what happened
Regardless, it appears that the main motivator in this decision was optimizing ad revenues, as "Carrie's season" would be the perfect time to segue into bring Rewind to FOX rather than The CW. To borrow a line from The O'Jays, "Money, money, money, money...MONEY!"
