Daughtry's new single "No Surprise" is now available to listen to at the band's official Web site.
What do you think? It's a mid-tempo, which I had a feeling it would be, and sounds like something Nickelback would come out with, which makes sense since Chad Kroeger helped write it. I'll have a review for it later on.

Daughtry's sophomore release set for July 14
Coming on the heels of news that Daughtry will premiere its new single "No Surprise" on Wednesday's Idol results show, Chris and the boys did a vlog informing fans of the exact date of the band's upcoming sophomore release. The big date to mark on your calendars is Tues., July 14. Listen what they have to say below:
The single was co-written by Chris and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback, which means it will probably sound like a Nickelback song. Have no fear, though, if anyone knows how to churn out radio-friendly hits while maintaining their rock credibility it is radio's "golden bands."

Chris vlogs: album is finished
In an epic vlog, Chris Daughtry announced that his band's sophomore album is now a finished product. He was in good spirits as he sipped coffee, saying they are looking for a "June or July-ish" release for it to grace fans' "earholes."
In between spilling his coffee, Chris rambled on with a bunch of interesting and dull tidbits at the same time, talking about his writing "sesh"s with Richard Marx and Chad Kroeger. He also talked of working with Lifehouse on their new album, and "writing like a crazy man" in general.
In the most lighthearted part of the vlog, Chris gave kudos to the Jonas Brothers in their competition for a Kids Choice Award, saying "may the best man win."

Daughtry writes song with Richard Marx, Chad Kroeger
According to Richard Marx's latest blog entry, he just wrapped up writing with Chris Daughtry and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger:
Richard just returned home from 10 days of writing with several artists. In Nashville, with newly signed acts Jason Jones, The Coppolas and Meghan Kabir, along with current chart climber, Chuck Wicks and superstar, Gary Allan. Then Richard flew to Vancouver where he co-wrote a song with Chris Daughtry and Chad Kroeger. He heads back to Nashville next week to write with Jessica Andrews, who's recording her Lyric Street records debut, and new artists Kree Harrison and Shanna Crooks. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
No word yet on whether or not the song will appear on Daughtry's upcoming album, never mind what its title is. The band's next album is tentatively set for a summer release.
Some track possibilities include the following:
"What I Meant to Say" (Chris Daughtry, Brian John Howes)
"Open Your Eyes" (C. Daughtry, David Hodges, Ben Moody)
"One Last Chance" (Mitch Allan, C. Daughtry, D. Hodges)
In an interview with Simon 98.7, the band's drummer, Joey Barnes, revealed more information on the release, saying they will record the second half of the album in Los Angeles and will choose 11-12 songs from a total of 20 or so recorded. He also said the band will headline their own tour this year to promote the album.
Howard Benson (Kelly Clarkson) will produce the album.
