After mentioning a change in hair color a few weeks ago, Katharine McPhee officially unveiled the change today in a spread on People.com. Per the story that accompanies the photo the right, Katharine said:"I’ve never dyed my hair before so this was a pretty drastic change. I’ve always been known as a brunette but I’ve been thinking about it for a long time and it kind of just fit with all of the searching with the music and experimenting that I would do the same thing with my look.”
Katharine also changed her head shot and layout on her official music MySpace page, notifying fans via a blog entry on the page.
The story also appears in the current issue of People magazine, which is on newsstands nationwide. Katharine is currently drumming support for her forthcoming album Unbroken on Verve Forecast, which is due out Tues., Oct. 6.

Adam Lambert, snake, butterfly make cover of 'Rolling Stone'
The long awaited cover story of Adam Lambert and his coming out party for Rolling Stone won't officially hit newsstands until this Friday, but the publication's Web site put up the cover and a few highlights from Adam's interview for an early teaser. After months of empty speculation, people no longer have to stress out over his sexuality. In fact, this is the most obvious outing of an Idol since, well, Clay Aiken's People cover story last year.
Read an excerpt below from the recap RS published on its site earlier today:The flamboyant Idol singer hits our cover and bares all, talking about his childhood (”I started to realize I wasn’t like every other boy,” he says), the drug-fueled Burning Man epiphany that led him to AI (”I realized that we all have our own power, and that whatever I wanted to do, I had to make happen,” he tells RS) and his run on the show (”I was like, ‘I’m going to glue rhinestones on my eyelids, bitch!’ “). And yes, he talks about his sexuality. “Right after the finale, I almost started talking about it to the reporters, but I thought, ‘I’m going to wait for Rolling Stone, that will be cooler,’ ” he tells us. “I didn’t want the Clay Aiken thing and the celebrity-magazine bullshit. I need to be able to explain myself in context.
But as many will undoubtedly try to use his coming out for political reasons, Adam clearly wants to move ahead with his career:“I’m trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader,” he says.
Joining Adam on the extremely glammed up cover (shot by Matthew Rolston) are a strategically placed green snake and butterfly, which are pretty unnecessary and play into the boundary-pushing that can come off as feeling cheap and tasteless.

'Idol' odds 'n ends: Kimberly Caldwell says "no deal!"
The following are Idol-related odds and ends that happened this week:
>Former Season 2 seventh-place finalist and current David Cook love interest Kimberly Caldwell appeared on last night's episode of NBC's Deal or No Deal. She was not a competing contestant, however, she just was there on the sidelines giving her advice.
>The New York Post is reporting that organizers of President-Elect Barack Obama's inauguration are trying to get Jennifer Hudson to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the ceremony. Jennifer has yet to perform in public since her family suffered a tragedy back in October.
>Also on the inaugural front, it was announced that David Archuleta will sing the anthem at the inauguration of Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. This is the second time David will have sang the anthem at the governor's inauguration, as he did the same four years ago before his Idol fame.
>Jordin Sparks and David Archuleta were chosen as two of People magazine's 10 "Hottest (and Youngest) Teen Stars" for its "Best of 2008" issue. They were chosen along with popular artists like Miley Cyrus and Hayley Williams of Paramore.
>CNN named Katharine McPhee and The House Bunny cast's cover of "I Know What Boys Like" as the worst song of 2008 on its The Best and Worst of 2008 special.

'Idol' odds 'n ends: Kellie reveals year-long depression
The following are Idol-related odds and ends that happened this week:
>Kellie Pickler told People magazine in an upcoming feature story that she has battled depression for the past year, as issues like her mother's efforts to reenter her life and her breakup with NHL player Jordin Tootoo caused her much pain. Said Kellie: "I was just crumbling."
>David Archuleta will perform "God Bless America" during Game 1 of the American League Championship Series between the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla., tonight during the seventh inning stretch. It will be broadcast on TBS.
>Taylor Hicks will release his second post-Idol album via the independent Artist to Market promotional company and his own Modern Whomp Records label. The album is set for an early winter 2009 release.
>Michael Johns performed during Channel 7's 26-hour telethon in Perth, Australia, which took place from Oct. 4-5. He sang "Never Tear Us Apart" among other songs, which can be watched below:
>Katharine McPhee will perform at the Carousel of Hope gala on Sat., Oct. 25 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif. Denzel Washington and his wife, Pauletta, are among the night's honorees.

Clay's gay
Clay Aiken finally came out of the closet, as outlined in a story that will appear in this week's People magazine, which hits newsstands on Friday. The story was broken by Perez Hilton and was confirmed by People.com, with full details being highlighted on the site tomorrow.
Clay will appear on Good Morning America later on in the week in a two-part interview, which looks to be a rematch of the 2006 infamous standoff between him and Diane Sawyer. (Photo courtesy of PerezHilton.com).

Cook named ones of People's "hottest bachelors"
David Cook was recently picked as one of People magazine's "hottest bachelors" for 2008. Below is the caption the magazine used for his photo:
He can sing in front of millions of people, but the 25-year-old American Idol winner admits that his stage bravado doesn't always carry over into his personal life. "Looking a pretty woman in the eye and convincing her I'm worth taking a chance on is different. It takes a specific brand of guts, and it's not the kind I have."There is also a behind the scenes video up on People's Web site, which can be viewed here. The issue is now on newsstands.
