People's Choice Awards wrap-up

The 36th annual People's Choice Awards were broadcast on CBS Wednesday night, and it was not without a few mentions of Idol and a few of the show's alums.

The big winners included Carrie Underwood, who took home a PCA for the "Favorite Country Artist" category, and the show itself, which was named "Favorite Competition Show." Watch Carrie's sincere acceptance speech below, in which she almost slips and falls (but has a nice recovery) on her walk up to the stage:

Carrie did lose out to Taylor Swift in the "Favorite Female Artist" category, and Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson all lost in their respective categories.

HITS estimates: Cook 19.2k

The Top 50 chart for HITS Daily Double's estimates is down to being represented by one Idol alum.

David Cook's self-titled album fell #16-19 with 19.2k copies sold for the week, down 39% from the previous week. Surprisingly there were no appearances by David Archuleta for the first time since his debut album was released, and Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride failed to re-emerge onto the chart despite her big night at the People's Choice Awards.

Finalized figures from Billboard should be out by tomorrow night.

Carrie, Jordin win at People's Choice Awards

It may not be the Grammys (or even the American Music Awards), but Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks both took home awards at the 35th annual People's Choice Awards tonight on CBS.

Carrie Underwood won her first award, Favorite Star 35 & Under, before she performed a stunning rendition of "I Know You Won't." Watch the performance below:

Carrie also took home Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Country Song for "Last Name," the former of which she received during the telecast.

Jordin was the other Idol to take home an award, as she accepted her award for Favorite Combined Forces for "No Air" while Chris Brown said a few words in a taped segment via satellite. Watch her acceptance speech below:



"No Air" did lose out to Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl," though, for the Favorite Pop Song category. Carrie also introduced the Rascal Flatts, who performed a medley of "What Hurts the Most" and "Life Is a Highway."

One noticeable loss went to American Idol, which was beat out by ABC's Dancing with the Stars in the Favorite Competition / Reality Show category.

Carrie Underwood: Commercial Queen

Evidence that Carrie Underwood's popularity has transcended Idol and country music is so apparent that one does not need to look far in order to spot her staggering presence. She is now being featured in two commercial on two separate networks: one for the eighth season of Idol on FOX and one for the 35th Annual People's Choice Awards on CBS. Watch the Idol commercial below:

For the PCA commercial, scenes from Carrie's music video for "Last Name" are used parsed with shots of host Queen Latifah letting audiences know of the upcoming awards, which air Wed., Jan. 7, at 9 p.m. on the eye network. Watch it below:



Carrie will perform at the show and is nominated for a pair of awards (Jordin Sparks also has two nominations).

Jordin dropped by 19E

File this under things no one saw coming. According to HITS Daily Double's rumor mill, Jordin Sparks has reportedly been dropped by 19E management. Per HITS' site:

THE SPARKS ARE GONE: Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment has terminated its management relationship with Jordin Sparks. The 19 Recordings label will continue as Jordin’s record company with its joint venture partner, Jive Records. (11/20p)

So let's get this straight...Jordin's album is 50k copies away from going platinum, an album which, by the way, has spawned two Top 10 singles and another Top 20 single, has been nominated for an American Music award, two People's Choice awards, nominated for two MTV Video Music awards, four Teen Choice awards (winning one of them) and a few BET awards, launched her own clothing line and has contributed to many charitable causes, and that still isn't good enough?

So far there has been no comment released from Jordin's camp, so it will be interesting to hear their side of the story. It's also important to keep in mind this does not mean Jive Records has dropped her, she is still signed with them. This is just management, but still it's a bit surprising.

Carrie, Jordin receive People's Choice noms

American Idol and its offspring are heavy contenders at the 35th annual People's Choice Awards, as Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks are each up for two awards. While Idol will most likely walk home with a win for Favorite Competition / Reality Show after taking the category in 2004, 2005 and 2006, Carrie has stiff competition in both categories she's nominated in (Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Country Song for "Last Name"). Carrie is also one of 32 celebrities up for Favorite Star 35 & Under.

Jordin, whose hit duet "No Air" with Chris Brown will also have to stave off Rihanna's "Disturbia" and Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" in the Favorite Pop Song category, while Madonna and Justin Timberlake's "4 Minutes" and Natasha Bedingfield and Sean Kingston's "Love Like This" will both try to prevail in the Favorite Combined Forces category.
