IDOL LIVE Chat: Top 24 Reveal (2/17/10)

After the slow-moving two-hour filler extravaganza known as last night's Hollywood Week episode, we will finally officially know the entire Top 24 roster at the end of tonight's one-hour episode.

The live chat will begin at 9 p.m. ET and will last one hour.

So far, we've seen Michael "Big Mike" Lynche, Katelyn Epperly, Lee DeWyze, Didi Benami, Todrick Hall, Casey James and Aaron Kelly advance to the semifinals. Who will round out the remaining 17 spots?

IDOL LIVE Chat: Hollywood Week pt. 3 (2/16/10)

Idol's producers are taking a bit of an unconventional approach to the final two episodes of the ninth season's Hollywood week. As previously mentioned, a few Top 24 contestants will be officially introduced in tonight's two-hour episode rather than tomorrow's "chair" episode that traditionally has been used to reveal the semifinalists. Therefore, you definitely do not want to miss out on this.

The live chat will begin at 8 p.m. ET and will last two hours.

Why do you think Idol is opting to spoil some of this season's contenders as opposed to doing the full reveal tomorrow? It seems a little odd on my part, but maybe they do know what they're doing. If anything, I'd guess it's a ratings ploy.

Some Top 24 contestants will be unveiled tonight

Idol seems to be up to its old tricks of trying to boost ratings by razzle-dazzling viewers with gimmicks. Apparently, there will be some Top 24 contestants revealed tonight instead of unveiling them all in tomorrow's traditional "chair" episode. Per the press release:

On Tuesday evening, the remaining contestants will take the stage to perform their final solo number in front of Simon, Ellen, Kara and Randy in hopes of singing their way into the Top 24. Following these performances, the judges will deliberate, and for the first time in IDOL history, will announce some of the Top 24 semifinalists.

This seems like a strange idea, even for this show. Why would anyone be excited to watch tomorrow's two-hour episode when we will most likely see the front runners receive their spots in the Top 24 tonight? Who knows, but odds are it will work out for the show in the short term. Getting viewers to stick around in the next few weeks is a different matter, though.

IDOL LIVE Chat: Hollywood Week pt. 1 (2/9/10)

Please join us tonight as we chat during the first episode of Hollywood Week for Idol's ninth season. Tonight we get acquainted with new judge Ellen DeGeneres.

The live chat will begin at 8 p.m. ET and will last one hour.

Will we see sparks fly between Ellen and Simon as reported a few weeks back? The odds are pretty good, but at the same time it could also be a whole lotta hype leading to a whole lotta nothing. If this season's Hollywood week is anything like last season's, there will be more than enough drama to go around.

Tatiana responds to critics on MySpace

Looks like Tatiana Nicole del Toro is not afraid of jeopardizing her chances of competing on Idol after all. Following a less than flattering Hollywood round in last night's episode, Tatiana "responds to critics" in her latest blog entry on her official music MySpace page. A taste of what she had to say:

I have survived many life threatening situations and have been through my fair share of deep hard knocks that no one could understand. It has been a painful and devastating process getting to where I am, and the thought that all that I have worked for could be blown and I could get cut and be the laughing stock of national television because of some people I just met, insulting me, blaming me for their own lack of talent and drive, sitting around moping and complaining and pointing fingers and wasting time, drove me to my melting point after HOURS/DAYS of trying to pull everything together with a smile on my face. I went to talk to the producer to tell him how I felt and why I was upset and I ended up in VERY REAL tears. These people called me "Satan" yelled at me and blamed me for things that never happened ALL ON NATIONAL TELEVISION. It was humiliating. I am sorry I tried to change groups but felt unwelcome and I tried to bring my group together knowing how much they hated me for NO REASON. I was trying to be a leader and contribute but I was put down and humiliated for doing what no one else would do. In the end WE ALL GOT THROUGH AS YOU COULD SEE.
I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT THOSE EMOTIONS ARE VERY REAL. TO FINALLY MAKE MY DREAMS COME TRUE AND FEEL AS GRATEFUL AS I FEEL...IS EMOTIONAL AND DEEPLY HUMBLING AND SPIRITUAL.
Tatiana went on to talk about the risk she is taking by communicating through her MySpace:
I have taken alot of risks in opening myself up with part of my story here on myspace, but I will really make it my priority to open up to people on the show so that they can see the real me and know that If anything is coming out "fake" or whatever...is only because I use the smiles to hide the true pain of all that I have endured and survived in my ever challenging past.
Well, this will be a fun season now won't it? If the rumors are in fact true, this could be a good excuse to boot Tatiana in favor of someone more deserving, no? Perhaps a certain Felicia Barton might want the spot a little bit more? Hey, it's worth a shot.

Good luck, Tatiana. You're gonna need it.

Bikini girl gets offers

File this under "who didn't see this coming?" MSNBC.com is reporting that everyone's favorite bikini girl (aka Katrina Darrell) has received offers following her elimination last night in the second round of Hollywood Week. One of the offers: Playboy.

But as Katrina proved in the article, sometimes it's just better to let someone speak for theirself in order to get the full effect:

"[I’ve had] a lot of different offers, like Vegas promotion offers. Of course Playboy has called. I wouldn’t say no, but at the same time I don’t want to stunt my career by jumping into that too soon and be labeled once again, as ‘just a body.’ But I don’t knock it."
Riiiiiiiiiight Katrina, because Playboy calls every stuck up, snot-nosed reject once they're eliminated from the #1 show in the country. And seriously, who would rather spend their 15 minutes on Idol than as a centerfold?

The sad thing is, she'll probably laugh herself all the way to the bank. Well, that's America for you.
