Kicking things off as usual was Carrie Underwood and her album Play On, which was up four spots to #27 on the heels of a healthy 31% gain to 19.5k copies for the week. It has sold 1.444 million in all. Carrie also saw her first studio effort, Some Hearts, re-enter the chart at #194 with 3.5k copies. It was up 23% for the week and boasts a total of 6.963 million.
Fellow country artist Danny Gokey saw his album My Best Days add 9.9k to its total thanks to only 17 more copies than it accrued in the previous week (which explains the 0% increase). It fell #50-61 but has now sold 121k to date.
Meanwhile, Daughtry's latest effort Leave This Town continued to add to its platinum status with an additional 9.2k copies, coming in at #66 and up 21% and six spots from the previous week. Its total is now 1.011 million. And Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment increased slid four spots to #69 but was ahead 10% in sales to 9.1k copies for a new sum of 586.6k.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Play On' #31 (4/10/10)
Down three spots to #31 this week was Carrie Underwood's Play On. It came on the heels of a 9% sales drop to 14.9k copies and a total of 1.425 million.
Next up was Danny Gokey with his debut album My Best Days, which declined 33% sales-wise to 9.9k copies. It slid 17 spots to #50 and now boasts a total of 111.8k to date. Adam Lambert was the only alum to see his album increase, as his For Your Entertainment moved ahead #71-65 thanks to a 6% uptick in sales to 8.3k for a total of 577.5k copies.
And Daughtry finished things off with its sophomore effort Leave This Town pulling in 7.7k copies with a 7% sales slide and accompanying right-spot drop to #72. It finally officially passed the platinum mark with 1.002 million in the bank. The band's earlier effort was off nine spots to #196 due to a 9% sales decrease to 2.9k copies for a 4.656 million total.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Play On' #28 (4/3/10)
Led once again by Carrie Underwood's Play On, there every album by an alum decreased sales-wise. Play On held steady at #28 but slid 5% in sales to 16.3k copies for a total sum of 1.410 million. Fellow country artist Danny Gokey saw his My Best Days experience a 15-spot drop to #33 after falling 39% in sales to 14.9k copies for a 102.5k.
Leave This Town by Daughtry actually was up one spot to #64 despite slipping 10% sales-wise to 3.2k for a net take of 994.3k copies. The band's first album continued to bounce around the bottom rungs of the chart with a decrease in sales by 5% to 3.2k copies for a total of 4.653 million. Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment was also off 10% to 7.8k copies yet it managed to remain at #71 for the second week in a row. It has taken in 569.3k copies to date.
And Kris Allen's self-titled album was down a hefty 18% to 3.1k copies for a total of 285.7k. It was down #172-193 chart-wise.

HITS estimates: Danny Gokey's 'My Best Days' #19 w/ 22.3k
One Idol alum saw his debut effort tumble by two-thirds as evidenced by HITS Daily Double's Top 50 building album sales chart.
Danny Gokey's My Best Days tumbled 15 spots to #19 for a second week take of 22.3k copies, marking a decline sales-wise of 67%. Despite having the best debut from a male solo country artist since Billy Ray Cyrus last week, the album suffered a big drop.
Experiencing a less drastic decrease was Carrie Underwood's Play On, which was off 6% but held steady at #28. It raked in another 17.4k copies.
And Daughtry's Leave This Town slid 13 spots to #48 as a result of a 23% sales dip for a weekly total of 11.3k.

HITS estimates: Danny Gokey's 'My Best Days' #4 w/ 67.3k
It was a good week for albums by Idol alums, at least according to HITS Daily Double's Top 50 building album sales chart.
Danny Gokey saw his debut My Best Days bow at #4 with 67.3k copies, many of which were most likely fueled by his performance on last week's results show. Danny's big opening week was significantly higher than both HDD's 45-50k guess and my own prediction of 43k, and it is almost in the vicinity of opening week numbers for Kris Allen's release last November.
Next up was another country artist, as Carrie Underwood's Play On was up 3% in sales this week to 18.5k copies, despite sliding six spots to #28. Daughtry also saw its Leave This Town rocket back onto the chart at #35.
And Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment was actually up another spot this week to #47 even though it was down 2% in sales to 11.3k copies.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Play On' #23 (2/27/10)
With basically no access to exact sales figures for Idol-related albums this week, the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart seemed pretty uninteresting considering only the chart movements were readily available.
Even though it dropped five spots to #23, Carrie Underwood's Play On retained its spot as leader of the pack among franchise entries. Surprisingly, her debut album Some Hearts increased #144-142 for the week.
Daughtry also was once again represented by two albums on the chart, with Leave This Town dropping one spot to #54 and Daughtry sliding by five to #162.
Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment was down #49-58, while Kris Allen's self-titled debut was off 11 spots to #127.
Meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted was once again off the chart, although it did place at #189 on the current albums chart with 3.3k copies for a current total of 835k.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Play On' #29 (2/13/10)
For the chart week of Feb. 13, it was an unexciting time for albums by Idol alums on the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart thanks to minuscule changes in both directions ahead of the many sales bumps that are expected on next week's chart from the Grammy Awards impact.
Carrie Underwood's Play On epitomized the boredom of the sales data, as it was up just 2% to 18.1k and down #24-29 on the chart side. The album has now sold exactly one copy over 1.263 million to date. Carrie's Some Hearts also hung onto a spot on the latter portion of the chart, with Some Hearts rising #198-177 (no sales data available).
Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment was up next although it was down for the week, sliding 15 spots to #36 and off 22% sales-wise. It sold 15.3k and is now just under 8k away from hitting the halfway to platinum mark. Daughtry's Leave This Town also fell, albeit just two spots, to #66 despite a 7% incline to 9.2k copies for a total of 916.4k. The band's debut followed in Carrie's debut's footsteps as it wallowed in the lower rungs of the chart down six spots to #181 (no sales data available).
Kris Allen saw his debut LP hit the 250k mark after it added 4.9k this past week. It still fell 21 spots to #122 thanks to a 7% sales decrease. And Kelly Clarkson saw her Grammy-nominated All I Ever Wanted drop off the chart with 2.9k copies.

'Idol' BB 200: 'For Your Entertainment' #21 (2/6/10)
This means Carrie Underwood's Play On fell back a few spots (eight to be exact) to #24 after sliding 18% in sales to 17.7k copies for a 1.245 million total. Carrie's first album is still hanging on the lower part of the chart, as Some Hearts was down 7% to 2.9k copies, off #186-198, for a total of 6.925 million.
Up next was Daughtry's sophomore effort, Leave This Town, was down one spot to #54 after selling 8.6k copies. It was actually up 1% and boasts a 907.2k cume. The band's previous release was also up in both sales (6%) and chart rank (#184-175), posting a 3.2k copies for a 4.623 million total.
Kris Allen's Kris Allen took a 14% tumble to 5.3k copies for a 244.8k total. On the chart side it was off 17 spots to #101. And Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted declined 6% sales-wise to 3.2k copies for a 825.5k total. It was down 10 spots to #179.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Play On' #17 (1/16/10)
The doldrums of January have really set in for CD sales among all artists including those that once were a part of Idol, at least according to the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart for the chart week of Jan. 16.
Carrie Underwood's Play On led off at #17, down nine spots from the previous week to 33.5k copies for the week. It was down a massive 78% in sales and has now sold 1.183 million to date. Next up was Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment, which also was down a hefty 72% to 17.2k copies. It slid #29-36 and now boasts a total of 433.8k.
On the rock side of things, Daughtry's Leave This Town pulled in another 11.9k copies this week for a total of 881.6k. The weekly take was off 65% in sales and 10 spots to #63 from the previous week. Also making the chart once again was the band's debut, which managed 4.3k copies and landed at #185, off 12 spots and 63% in sales for a current total of 4.613 million.
Kris Allen's self-titled debut was down #59-91 as a direct result of a 71% sales decrease to 8.6k copies. It's total is now at 228k. Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted was similarly off a lot (64%) and ended up taking in another 5k for a 15-spot drop to #159. It has sold 815.5k in all.
And Allison Iraheta's Just Like You finished the Idol representation off as it dropped 21 spots to #186, also down 64%, adding another 4.3k copies to its 74.3k total.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Play On' #6 (12/19/09)
Sales were mostly down this week among albums by Idol alums on the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart for the chart week of Dec. 19.
Leading the pack was Carrie Underwood's Play On, which took in another 80.8k copies. Despite sliding 35% sales-wise, the album was up three spots in the rankings to #6, and its total is now 737.1k in just over one month. Carrie also had the last Idol-related album to place on the Top 200, has her Carnival Ride re-entered the chart at #197, up 4% to 5.7k copies for a total of 3.008 million, which means her sophomore album officially passed the triple platinum mark last week.
Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment, which was down a whopping 74% sales-wise to 51k in its second week. The album dropped 19 spots to #22 and has sold 249.9k so far.
Up #52-34 this week was Christmas From the Heart by David Archuleta. The Christmas album sold another 33.6k for the week, up 57%, and now boasts a total of 122.2k. Meanwhile, the latest debut album from a Season 8 alum, Allison Iraheta's Just Like You came in at #35 with 31.7k in its first week. My prediction of 35k was a little high, but pretty much right on the money.
Kris Allen, on the other hand, saw his self-titled album decline 31% to 22.3k copies. It was down #35-52 and has sold 135k to date. Daughtry's Leave This Town was also off 5% to 17.1k copies, down six spots to #68 for a total of 783.6k copies. The band's first album was able to hang onto a spot in the Top 200, collapsing #83-195 thanks to a sales depreciation of 61% to 5.8k copies for a total of 4.581 million.
And Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted fell #121-143 as a result of a 19% drop in sales. It sold 8.6k copies for the week and has now sold 774.3k in all.

'Idol' BB 200: 'For Your Entertainment' #3 (12/12/09)
Thanksgiving week is always a boon for the music industry, as shoppers traditionally get a jump start on their holiday gift buying. Not surprisingly, this trend was seen among albums by Idol alums according to the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart for the chart week of Dec. 12.
Entering the chart at #3 was Adam Lambert's album For Your Entertainment, which managed to sell 198.5k in its opening week. This tally was over 100k more sold than Kris Allen's debut the previous week, and despite the fact that it was less than the 210-230k originally predicted, it's a healthy number regardless.
Holding steady at #9 was Carrie Underwood's album Play On, which increased in sales by 44% to 123.9k copies. Its total now stands at 656.3k. Carrie was also represented on the chart by her debut album Some Hearts, which experienced a resurgence onto the chart at #132 at 9.8k copies thanks to a steep discount in price. It was up 160% and has sold 6.876 million copies after four years.
Sliding 24 spots to #35 was Kris's self-titled album, which moved another 32.5k copies this past week. It was the only Idol-related album to witness a decrease, though expected, as it was down 59% and is sitting at a total of 112.6k after two weeks. David Archuleta's Christmas From the Heart was up 21% to 21.5k despite slipping #44-52 for a total of 88.6k.
Further down the chart at #62 was Daughtry's Leave This Town, rising six spots and 57% in sales. Its total is now 766.5k. The band's first album re-entered the chart at #83, pulling in another 14.9k thanks to a 286% uptick in sales. Its three-year sales tally now rests at 4.575 million copies.
And Kelly Clarkson's Grammy-nominated All I Ever Wanted shot up #171-121 with 10.6k copies, up 114%, for a total of 765.7k.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Play On' #9 (12/5/09)
The assortment of albums from Idol alums grew on the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart for the chart week of Dec. 5, but not all data were amazingly good.
Carrie Underwood's numbers for her album Play On were stuffed once again, as another 86.2k copies were sold, down 33% from the previous week. It was down six spots to #9 and has sold 532.5k to date.
Next up was Kris Allen with the debut of his self-titled album, which came in right on target with estimates at #11 with 80.1k. Kris is the first winner to not have his first album debut in the Top 10, and his sales numbers are also the lowest for a winner to date.
Moving on, David Archuleta's Christmas From the Heart was up surprisingly big, gaining 83% and 31 spots to #44 with another 17.7k copies in the bank. Total to date is 67.2k Daughtry's Leave This Town was down 13% in sales to 11.4k, placing it at #68 on the chart, off 22 spots from the previous week. The disc has moved a total of 748.6k in all.
Debuting at #72 was Adam Lambert's unauthorized pre-Idol release Take One, which duped 11.1k-worth of fans into defying Adam's wishes to have people stay away from the attempt at a cheap buck by his former producer pals. Adam's real release will see huge returns on next week's chart.
And Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted finished off Idol representation at #171, down from #123 the previous week. It sold another 5k for the week and was off only 5% for a total of 755.1k.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Leave This Town' #54 (11/7/09)
All was quiet on the Idol front concerning the latest edition of the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart ahead of Carrie Underwood's Play On release this Tuesday.
That said, each entry save David Archuleta's Christmas album pretty much held steady. Daughtry's Leave This Town was down 10% in sales to 9.8k copies, but only fell four spots to #54 on the chart side. It has sold 707.5k to date.
Next up was Arch's Christmas From the Heart, which experienced a sizable yet standard second-week drop by 56% to 7.4k. It fell #30-71 and has sold 24.3k copies after two weeks of release.
Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted was next, selling one less copy than the previous week (5,729 vs. 5,730) but was up one spot on the chart (#93 vs. #94). It now boasts a total of 734.3k. And Kellie Pickler's self-titled effort continued its long, hard slog on the chart, depreciating 17% sales-wise to 2.8k and sliding 17 spots to #174. Its total is now 326.1k.

Daughtry's music video for "Life After You" premieres on PopEater
Amid a week of music video releases by Idol alums, it appears one of the more high profile ones was overlooked by yours truly. Daughtry's latest single, "Life After You," premiered on AOL's PopEater blog on Thursday. Watch the video below:
In describing the video, Chris Daughtry in part told PopEater:
We deal with having to connect at home and manage that while we're doing our job on the road -- at the same time. The video shows what we do on any given day... moving from place to place and having to get in touch with my wife."The video itself is a classic Daughtry video: a little lifeless. That said, this song is not nearly the strongest offering on the band's sophomore album Leave This Town, but it will most likely surpass its previous single, "No Surprise," on the success meter.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Leave This Town' #42 (10/17/09)
A slew of non-Idol debuts on the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart sent the four remaining Idol-related entries swirling down the chart in its latest edition.
A prime example of this trend was Daughtry's sophomore album Leave This Town, which fell #28-42 despite only slipping 9% in sales. Its weekly take of 14.4k copies was enough to bring its total to date to 675.4k.
Up next was Kelly Clarkson's album All I Ever Wanted, which sat at the midpoint of the chart thanks to a 21-spot slip to #100. It sold another 5.4k, down 4%, for a current total of 716.7k copies. Jordin Sparks' Battlefield also witnessed dramatic downward movement on the chart as it tumbled 32 spots to #157 on the heels of an 11% dip in sales. It ended up moving an additional 3.3k units to bring its total to 120.3k.
And Kellie Pickler's Kellie Pickler brought up the rear at #180, down three spots from the previous week despite seeing its sales jump 7%. Its weekly take of 3k copies brings its total to 317.2k.

HITS estimates: 'Leave This Town' #45
Daughtry's sophomore album Leave This Town continued its downward spiral on HITS Daily Double's Top 50 building album sales chart, once again fulfilling its duty as the only Idol-related album to have sales estimates high enough to report.
Leave This Town moved an additional 14.4k copies, down 11% in sales. It slipped 12 spots on the chart to #45. Whether or not this album will hang on for one more week remains to be seen. As for the likelihood of Blake Lewis' Heartbreak On Vinyl making an appearance in the sales estimates, don't count on it. But stay tuned just in case.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Leave This Town' #28 (10/10/09)
After two weeks without complete sales, Idol representation on the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart is finally available once again for the chart week of Oct. 10.
First up was Daughtry with its sophomore album Leave This Town, which dipped 13% in sales to 15.8k copies. Down four spots to #28 from the previous week, the album has now totaled 661k.
Next up was Kelly Clarkson with her album All I Ever Wanted, which rose eight spots to #79. On the sales side, it was down 5% to 5.7k copies for a current total of 711.3k. Jordin Sparks' Battlefield followed at #125, down six spots from the previous week. It sold another 3.7k, down 9%, for a 117k total.
And Kellie Pickler finished things off in terms of Idol alums with her self-titled sophomore effort at #177, down from #155 the previous week. It was down 4% in sales and sold 2.8k copies for the week, resulting in a total of 314.2k to date.

HITS estimates: 'Leave This Town' #33
In what promises to be the second-to-last week in which Daughtry's sophomore album appears as the sole Idol-related entry on HITS Daily Double's Top 50 building album sales chart, things were pretty much status quo.
This time, Leave This Town landed at #33, down three spots from the previous week, after taking in 16.2k copies, down 13% in sales.

HITS estimates: 'Leave This Town' #30
Daughtry's sophomore album Leave This Town is now in its sixth consecutive week as the sole Idol-related entry on HITS Daily Double's Top 50 building album sales chart.
This time around, the album decreased 13% in sales to 18.5k copies for the week, but the managed to improve one spot on the chart to #30.
After a week without complete data, finalized album sales figures courtesy of Billboard ideally should be out by the end of the week.

HITS estimates: 'Leave This Town' #31
For the fifth consecutive week, Daughtry's sophomore album was the only Idol-related album to appear on HITS Daily Double's Top 50 building album sales chart.
This week, Leave This Town slipped nine spots to #31 after declining 18% in sales to 21.2k copies.
Finalized album sales figures courtesy of Billboard should be out by the end of the week.
