In what has to be the most obvious result to date of all rounds of this year's edition of IDOL LIVE's poll of the week champion series, Chris Daughtry mopped the floor with his fellow fourth-place finalists.
The Daughtry frontman earned 22 votes in all, good for 50% of the 44 votes cast over the past week. This is Chris's third straight victory in the champion series among finalists in his group.
Even though Daughtry ran away with this round of the poll series, it doesn't mean no other finalist earned votes. Jason Castro's 13 votes (29%) were enough for second place, while Allison Iraheta (four votes, 9%) and new mom Tamyra Gray (three votes, 6%) were further behind in third and fourth, respectively. Unfortunately, three finalists failed to receive a single vote: Josh Gracin (Season 2), LaKisha Jones (Season 6) and Michael Lynche (Season 9).
In the next round, readers will be asked which 3rd-place finalist is their favorite of all nine seasons. Voting will be open for exactly one week.

Flashback: Allison Iraheta's "Cry Baby"
Season 8's Allison Iraheta was one of the best performers for her age to ever appear on Idol's stage, and her performance of "Cry Baby," as made famous by Janis Joplin, was a near crowning moment for the then 17-year-old, especially considering it took place on Rock 'n Roll night during Top 4 week - the same night on which she had an unforgettable duet with Adam Lambert on "Slow Ride." Despite the great range displayed by Alison on "Cry Baby," she was eliminated the following night. Alison might have been the victim of a crowded, talented Top 4, but at least she went out on a high note.

'Idol' odds 'n ends: Ryan Seacrest wants another talk show?
The following are Idol-related odds and ends that happened this week:
>Is it possible Ryan Seacrest could become the next Oprah? There are rumors floating around that he's considering launching back into the daytime talk circuit with a show of his own, but not until 2011. Per Zap2It.com:
According to LARadio.com, Seacrest and CBS are sidling up to talks for Seacrest about hosting and executive producing a show that would premiere in the fall of 2011. It would also likely be a package deal that would include his radio shows as well.
The rumblings about Seacrest making a move come as the end of his current radio contract nears its end. He's currently with KIIS-FM, a Clear Channel-owned station, but his deal there expires in November.
If anyone is thinking to his or herself, "wait a minute, didn't Ryan already have his own talk show?" your mind isn't playing tricks on you. Back in '04 Ryan spent his afternoons on On-Air with Ryan Seacreast, which had a lifespan of only a few months.

Lee's talk with Letterman was, well, rather boring but he seemed more personable than usual. Lee talked about working in a paint store and the full year process of him working with Idol, calling Simon a "genuinely nice guy."
>Only three months since joining the Hair tribe, Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young will be looking for a new paycheck as they were given their two weeks notice yesterday that the Broadway revival will be closing its doors at the Al Hirschfeld Theater on June 27. Per Broadway.com:
The closing release emphasized that Hair recouped its entire $5,760,000 investment four months into the run and has generated a profit. The show weakened at the box office after the original cast departed for London, grossing $351,992 for the week ending June 6 and playing to 46.50% of capacity. The London production, which opened in April at the Gielgud Theatre will close on September 4, and according to a statement from the producers, “Many of the members of the current Broadway Tribe and London Tribe will take part in the tour.”

>Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox paid NBC's Today Show a visit yesterday to perform in concert at Rockefeller Plaza. Watch them duet on "Falling Slowly" below:
Lee took the stage to perform an acoustic version of "Beautiful Day," while Crystal did an acoustic rendition of "Me & Bobby McGee" as Michael Orland accompanied the two on piano. In their pre-performance chat with Meredith Viera, Lee was asked what his favorite brand of paint was, and he gave a cop-out "the're's plenty of good ones" answer." Crystal said she'd like to use her celebrity to raise awareness for diabetes, especially in underdeveloped countries.
>After staying out of the limelight for an extended amount of time, Clay Aiken seems to be taking on a higher profile as of late, with a performance on ABC's Good Morning America on Tuesday and details of yet another cover album leaking out. Clay's latest cover disc, Tried and True (more like "Tired and Too Much"), hit stores on Tuesday to little fanfare. Before his performance on GMA, Clay chatted with co-host Robin Roberts and called summer tour mate Ruben Studdard "one of the best performers on stage" he knows.

While in the city, Arch also performed "Works For Me" on FOX & Friends yesterday with friend Toby Lightman. He will next be at the Barnes & Noble at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Minn., tomorrow at 2 p.m.
The Orianthi-infused “Don’t Waste the Pretty” hits iTunes June 8, according to a rep at Allison’s label.
Jive must really believe in Allison since they've previously released two singles that have failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, especially considering they only got behind two singles on David Archuleta's first release and Jordin Sparks's Battlefield.

HITS predix: Danny Gokey's 'My Best Days' to debut with 45-50k
With a performance on Idol's results show Thursday in the cards, HITS Daily Double is predicting Danny Gokey's debut album My Best Days to open with numbers between 45-50k. This would put his debut opening week sales below releases from fellow third-place finalists Elliott Yamin (Elliott Yamin, 90k), but ahead of season-mate Allison Iraheta (Just Like You, 32k) and Melinda Doolittle (Coming Back to You, 10.9k) (no numbers were available for Kimberley Locke's debut One Love).
This figure are fairly close to my original prediction of 43k copies. Be sure to be back here next week when Billboard will (hopefully) have final sales data available.

IDOL LIVE predix: Danny Gokey's 'My Best Days'
Danny's album, courtesy of RCA Nashville, has a few things going for it that will help it stand out from the crowd and most likely fare better than recent releases by alums. First, it's a country album with Christian/Gospel overlap, which is something that hasn't been heard recently. This should help it gain the attention of a wide swath of fans of the genres.
Another factor that will help Danny's album out is the general lack of competition that it will face this week, especially among country releases. Additionally, Danny's single has been making steady progress up the charts at radio, which definitely doesn't hurt an album's prospects of doing well this week.
One problem Danny will have is his ability to get the message out there that his album is available. Appearing on Idol's results show on Thursday is a huge deal and is basically the pinnacle of promotional opportunities for any artist, but it is necessary for Danny to reach past the usual Idol audience in order to open north of 50k in his album's debut week. Sadly, there are no other nationally-televised appearances for him this week, so it will be hard for him to accomplish this goal.
All things considered, Danny should do fairly well with My Best Days for now, with a probable opening week tally of 43k copies in the cards. This would be above Allison's first week album sales but below the numbers of discs by Adam Lambert and Kris Allen.

After two nights in a row of very average, underwhelming exhibitions of performances in a long time. Even though things weren't off to such a great start, some of the contestants show a good amount of promise, and so it will be interesting to see if tonight's boots are deserving or maybe cut a little prematurely.

After carrying the early rounds of Idol's ninth season using the Chatroll platform, I am reverting to the CoverItLive software after receiving feedback that it is the preferred way to blog during the show's episodes. 'Idol' BB 200: 'Play On' #17 (1/16/10)
The doldrums of January have really set in for CD sales among all artists including those that once were a part of Idol, at least according to the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart for the chart week of Jan. 16.
Carrie Underwood's Play On led off at #17, down nine spots from the previous week to 33.5k copies for the week. It was down a massive 78% in sales and has now sold 1.183 million to date. Next up was Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment, which also was down a hefty 72% to 17.2k copies. It slid #29-36 and now boasts a total of 433.8k.
On the rock side of things, Daughtry's Leave This Town pulled in another 11.9k copies this week for a total of 881.6k. The weekly take was off 65% in sales and 10 spots to #63 from the previous week. Also making the chart once again was the band's debut, which managed 4.3k copies and landed at #185, off 12 spots and 63% in sales for a current total of 4.613 million.
Kris Allen's self-titled debut was down #59-91 as a direct result of a 71% sales decrease to 8.6k copies. It's total is now at 228k. Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted was similarly off a lot (64%) and ended up taking in another 5k for a 15-spot drop to #159. It has sold 815.5k in all.
And Allison Iraheta's Just Like You finished the Idol representation off as it dropped 21 spots to #186, also down 64%, adding another 4.3k copies to its 74.3k total.

Happy New Year from IDOL LIVE
Now that 2010 is officially here, IDOL LIVE would like to wish everyone a happy and safe New Year. To celebrate, enjoy last night's Idol action from television specials in case you were out partying.
As usual, Ryan Seacrest helmed Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve special on ABC, where he was aided by Dick Clark himself and Times Square correspondent Melissa Rycroft. In the segment below, watch Paula Abdul wish Clark a happy new year in a taped clip at 2:56.
Also making an appearance on the special was Daughtry, as the band performed a bunch of hits including "No Surprise," "Home" and current single "Life After You," which can be viewed below:
Meanwhile, over on FOX a few familiar faces were found performing, as Allison Iraheta and Kris Allen took part in Billboard's New Year's Eve Live special. Kris performed "Live Like We're Dying" and "Can't Stay Away." Allison performed "Friday I'll Be Over You" and "Holiday," which can be watched below:
Hopefully 2010 will be more exciting than 2009 (not that '09 wasn't exciting, but it's always good to improve!)

Poll of the week: FYI, Adam Lambert's FYE is FAVE single
IDOL LIVE readers handed Adam Lambert a convincing win in the latest edition of the poll of the week series in which readers were asked which single from an Idol alum was their favorite on the year.
Adam's "For Your Entertainment" led all other voting options in a crowded field of 19 other songs, taking in 102 votes (37%). Adam's latest single, "Whataya Want From Me," was back in fourth place with 23 votes (8%). Coming in second was Elliott Yamin's "Fight For Love" with 26 votes, while Kris Allen's "Live Like We're Dying" was right behind with 25 votes. Both nabbed 9% of the total votes.
In fact, only one song failed to receive a single vote, that being Kelly Clarkson's "I Do Not Hook Up." Seeing that she was represented by two more popular singles, "Already Gone" (18 votes, 6%) and "My Life Would Suck Without You" (6 votes, 2%), this didn't come as much of a surprise.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Play On' #5 (1/2/10)
In the week before Christmas, there were gains had all around by Idol alums for their albums, which made great stocking stuffers or wrapped gifts for many on Friday, at least according to the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart for the chart week of Jan. 2.
For the second week in a row, Carrie Underwood's Play On was fifth on the chart thanks to a weekly take of 153.1k. It was up 44% in sales and has sold 996.7k to date, just shy of platinum status. Far behind at #26 was Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment. Up four spots and 26% from the previous week, it sold another 58.6k for a total of 354.9k. At the same time, Adam's unauthorized pre-Idol release Take One was back on the chart at #174 thanks to a 77% hike to 6.9k for a total of 30.8k.
David Archuleta's Christmas From the Heart saw what is likely its last week inside the Top 100 for a long time, dropping #47-55 in the face of a 2% uptick in sales. It sold 31.5k copies for a total of 184.5k. Kris Allen saw his self-titled album get a big 34% boost also to 31.5k, increasing #61-56 and placing its total at 189.9k.
Daughtry's Leave This Town was also a popular Christmas gift, as it was up 37% in sales to 30.2k and seven spots on the chart to #59. Its total is now 835.7k. Meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted inched closer to the 800k mark, climbing #164-143 to 12.9k copies for the week. Its was up 39% sales-wise and now stands at 796.5k. Allison Iraheta's Just Like You was the only Idol-related album to see sales decline this week, as it was down 12% to 12.4k copies for a total of 58.1k. On the chart side it was down #99-148.
Also back on the chart was Kellie Pickler's self-titled album, which rose 18% in sales to 7.5k copies. The album came in at #164 and has sold 360.4k to date.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Play On' #6 (12/19/09)
Sales were mostly down this week among albums by Idol alums on the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart for the chart week of Dec. 19.
Leading the pack was Carrie Underwood's Play On, which took in another 80.8k copies. Despite sliding 35% sales-wise, the album was up three spots in the rankings to #6, and its total is now 737.1k in just over one month. Carrie also had the last Idol-related album to place on the Top 200, has her Carnival Ride re-entered the chart at #197, up 4% to 5.7k copies for a total of 3.008 million, which means her sophomore album officially passed the triple platinum mark last week.
Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment, which was down a whopping 74% sales-wise to 51k in its second week. The album dropped 19 spots to #22 and has sold 249.9k so far.
Up #52-34 this week was Christmas From the Heart by David Archuleta. The Christmas album sold another 33.6k for the week, up 57%, and now boasts a total of 122.2k. Meanwhile, the latest debut album from a Season 8 alum, Allison Iraheta's Just Like You came in at #35 with 31.7k in its first week. My prediction of 35k was a little high, but pretty much right on the money.
Kris Allen, on the other hand, saw his self-titled album decline 31% to 22.3k copies. It was down #35-52 and has sold 135k to date. Daughtry's Leave This Town was also off 5% to 17.1k copies, down six spots to #68 for a total of 783.6k copies. The band's first album was able to hang onto a spot in the Top 200, collapsing #83-195 thanks to a sales depreciation of 61% to 5.8k copies for a total of 4.581 million.
And Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted fell #121-143 as a result of a 19% drop in sales. It sold 8.6k copies for the week and has now sold 774.3k in all.

Poll of the week: Daughtry's 'Daughtry' still tops among 4th-placers
Although there as not nearly the amount of excitement surrounding fourth-place finalists' albums as there was in last week's collection of feelings on albums from runners-up, the latest edition of IDOL LIVE's poll of the week found that one alum from the former category ran away with the competition.
Daughtry's mega-successful debut album Daughtry was selected by readers as their favorite one by a fourth-place finisher, garnering 45 votes (60%). The only other entry to attract a mentionable tally was Allison Iraheta's brand new disc Just Like You, which claimed 24% of all votes cast, or 18 in all.
In this week's edition of the poll of the week, readers are asked which Idol parent is your favorite. Voting will be open for exactly one week.

HITS estimates: 'Play On' #9 w/ 75.7k
There were good drops and bad drops to be had for Idol-related albums on HITS Daily Double's Top 50 building album sales chart.
Carrie Underwood led the pack with Play On, which was down only 34% despite the non-holiday sales week. The album held at #9 and sold an additional 75.7k copies.
Next up was Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment, which suffered the largest decline among entries on the Top 50, surpassing drops experienced by fellow second-week albums Rihanna's Rated R (70%) and Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster (67%). Entertainment was down 18 spots to #21 and sold another 50.7k copies.
Re-entering the chart at #33 was David Archuleta's Christmas From the Heart, selling another 35.6k copies, while Allison Iraheta's Just Like You bowed one spot behind at #34 with 31.8k. My prediction was 35k so it was basically right in the range.
And Kris Allen rounded out Idol representation on the chart with his self-titled album at #47, down from #31 the previous week. It sold 22.7k copies, decreasing 35%.
Full sales numbers and chart positions courtesy of Billboard should be out by the end of the week.

HITS predix: Carrie Underwood's 'Play On' 60-65k
HITS Daily Double revised its sales projections today, and the news is not good for albums by Idol alums.
The only Idol-related album that appears to be headed for sales over 50k is Carrie Underwood's Play On, which should take in around 60-65k copies. This means Adam Lambert's album For Your Entertainment, which opened at #3 with 198k last week, is looking to drop about 75% in its second week, pulling in below 50k copies. This is evidence that Adam's sales last week were inflated by the black Friday shopping period, and his album could be in for even larger declines in the weeks to come.
And newcomer Allison Iraheta's album Just Like You did not have its initial numbers included in the revised update, which means it most likely will debut in the 25-30k range.

ABC replaces Adam Lambert with Allison Iraheta on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live,' cancels NYE appearance
It seems ABC has opted to enforce a network-wide ban on Adam Lambert. The network has canceled Adam's appearance on its late night program Jimmy Kimmel Live, which was set to air on Thurs., Dec. 17, and his invitation to perform a coveted slot on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve has also been withdrawn. This comes one week after the network's morning program Good Morning America canceled a scheduled performance by Adam, which was the first casualty of his controversial performance at the 2009 American Music Awards.
Instead, Allison Iraheta will be the beneficiary of this news, as she has been scheduled to replace Adam on the show according to a tweet from the show:Coming up on December 17th we've got Allison Iraheta scheduled for a concert. about 1 hour ago from web
Adam confirmed the news, saying via his Twitter:Yes, sadly friends, ABC has cancelled my appearances on Kimmel and NYE. :( don't blame them. It's the FCC heat. 25 minutes ago from Echofon
Adam followed the confirmation up with news that he will in fact be appearing on NBC's The Jay Leno Show, but no date is set in stone yet. Adam will be one of Barbara Walters' "10 most fascinating people of 2009," so he will be featured on ABC on Wed., Dec. 9, at 10 p.m. ET.
HITS predix: Allison Iraheta's 'Just Like You' 25-30k
Contrary to her hair color, things aren't looking so red-hot for Allison Iraheta's debut disc Just Like You, as HITS Daily Double's one-day sales numbers are painting a disappointing but hardly unexpected picture.
HDD has the fourth-place finalist's album debuting with 25-30k copies in its opening week, which is a great deal lower than first week sales of albums from fellow Season 8 finalists Adam Lambert (198k) and Kris Allen (80k). It is expected to be the second highest-selling debut for the week, but should enter the chart at the lower rung of the Top 20. My original prediction of 35k was a little on the high side.
Surprisingly, there were no predictions for any of last week's big debuts besides Susan Boyle, whose I Dreamed a Dream should battle Andrea Bocelli's My Christmas for the #1 spot with around 350k each.
