Kelly performs on SNL

After nearly a week's worth of promo, Kelly Clarkson took to the stage at 30 Rockefeller tonight when she was the musical guest on NBC's Saturday Night Live, hosted by SNL alum Tracy Morgan. Although she did not make any appearances in the show's skits (thus we did not see the revival of Olestra nor the blind, singing train lady), Kelly performed "My Life Would Suck Without You" and second single "I Do Not Hook Up." The episode was the best one yet this year, and was probably the most solid one since the Nov. 1, 2008 episode with Ben Affleck as the host and David Cook as the musical guest.

Kelly performs "My Life Would Suck Without You" on 'Regis & Kelly'

Continuing to promote her fourth studio album in its opening week, Kelly Clarkson hit #1-rated morning talk show Live with Regis & Kelly yesterday to perform the album's first single, "My Life Would Suck Without You." Watch the performance below:

Kelly also chatted with the co-hosts about Idol and All I Ever Wanted, plus she performed "Walk Away" for the studio audience.

This all comes before her big musical guest appearance on tonight's episode of Saturday Night Live, where she will perform two songs including "My Life Would Suck Without You" and another song (most likely "I Do Not Hook Up").

In other news, HITS Daily Double has kept its estimates at 220-230k for All I Ever Wanted's opening week, which would be her lowest opening sales week yet.

Kelly Clarkson's busy week of promo

Kelly Clarkson has already kicked her promotional campagin into high gear for latest album All I Ever Wanted in the form of countless radio show appearances, print interviews and on-camera interviews literally all around the globe, but she isn't near done yet.

The week of her album's release, Kelly will need to take her caffeine pills or at least hit Dunkin' Donuts a couple times a day in order to fulfill her hectic schedule. Take a peek at the main appearances below (all courtesy of Kelly Clarkson Express):

Cook's SNL performances

David Cook should royally thank RCA for booking him the biggest gig in his short post-Idol career. He performed on what was by far the best episode of Saturday Night Live this season. Watch him perform "Light On" and "Declaration" below:

Now comes the all important question that every Word Nerd will be asking in the next few days...Why did RCA decide to put out "Light On" over "Declaration"? Hello, was Clive Davis re-hired and put in charge of Sony BMG? What happened?

Oh well, all that matters is he hit it out of the park tonight and with what could be record audiences for the episode, the label will escape scrutiny for the short term just for securing this appearance.

P.S. Cook gets bonus points for shaking Sen. John McCain's hand. Putting politics aside is always a smart idea.

As the entire world probably knows by now, David Cook will be the featured musical guest on tomorrow night's broadcast of NBC's Saturday Night Live. Over the course of this week, promotional ads have been airing on the network in hopes of raising awareness of the episode, which will be hosted by actor Ben Affleck. RCA won't let "Light On" go out

Although many have already jumped what seemed to be the sinking S.S. "Light On," RCA Records is steadfast in its support of the single. A nice surprise for David Cook's fans was found on the main page of iTunes this morning, as a great big huge banner allowing fans to pre-order Cook's debut album was put front and center (or more like to the immediate right of center). It also can be found on the main page of the Pop section (this time on the immediate left).

The ability to pre-order the album and receive "Light On" as a bonus is a very smart move on the record company's part, and it is already proving to be successful. After hitting a low chart ranking of #98 on iTunes Top 100 overall songs chart on Oct. 19, "Light On" has rebounded to #38 at the present time, a 60-spot improvement in only two days. To add to the good news, Cook's album is already sitting at #6 on iTunes' Top 100 overall albums chart based on pre-sales alone, just one spot behind Beyonce's upcoming I Am...Sasha Fierce, which also hits stores on Nov. 18 and was made available for pre-order on iTunes today.

If this was RCA's plan all along, then it deserves credit especially considering its erratic behavior earlier this month. But it should be suggested that the label should have staved off the digital release of "Light On" until it was able to attain a substantial amount of airplay, and then add it as part of a special pre-order deal on iTunes. Be this as it may, playing Monday morning quarterback is pretty much futile at this point.

To add to things, the following was included in iTunes' "New Music Tuesday" e-mail sent out today:

"The Battle of the Davids" was one of American Idol's fiercest competitions ever, as David Cook ultimately outlasted his younger competitor to win it all. With his self-titled debut, the rock-oriented vocalist is out to prove that viewers made the right choice. Pre-order the album on iTunes and get the pre-order-only track "My Last Request" when the album is released on November 18 and the single "Light On" will begin to download immediately.

Way to put down the Archies, RCA.

But all that matters is that RCA finally has its act together, and combining this new approach with Cook's appearance as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live on Nov. 1, things are definitely looking up.

Cook to perform on SNL Nov. 1

If there is any question as to how dedicated 19E and RCA are to pushing David Cook's debut album, the fact that he is performing on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" on Nov. 1 should quell any anxiety fans are having. The Chicago Tribune's TV correspondent Maureen Ryan announced via her blog that Cook will be the show's musical guest with Ben Affleck fulfilling hosting duties.

What is notable about this appearance is that no Idol has ever performed on the show prior to having an album released. He is also only the fourth Idol alum to perform on the show, following Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. To magnify the situation even further, this is the final regular season episode before the presidential election on Nov. 4, so the audience should be bigger than ever in anticipation, especially is someone makes an appearance *cough*SarahPalin*cough*

It looks like RCA really is pulling out all the stops for Cook afterall.

Return of the crying girl

Who could forget Ashley Ferl, the infamous "crying girl" that shot to fame following her violent sobfests on American Idol's sixth season. According to LATimes.com blogger Deborah Netburn, her 15 minutes aren't quite up. Netburn has learned that Ashley will attend the Top 10 performance show thanks to a few tickets from executive producer Ken Warwick.

Since garnering instant recognition from her crying at the Top 11 performance show during Sanjaya Malakar's rendition of "You Really Got Me," Ashley has met dozens of former Idol contestants, and has cried at meeting every single one of them. She has even been parodied on Saturday Night Live. But she apparently won't be as excited to return this season as she was last year despite having five favorites. Why not?

Regardless, it would be a bit naiive to think audiences won't catch at least one tear being shed.

Carrie performs on 'Saturday Night Live'

Carrie Underwood was the musical guest on the first episode of Saturday Night Live since the writer's strike ended. The episode was hosted by SNL alum Tina Fey and Carrie performed her latest single "All-American Girl" in addition to "Flat On the Floor."

Her vocals were noticeably lackluster on "Girl" and there seemed to be a problem with the balance between the volumes of the microphone and the band, but she managed to deliver a show-stopper with "Floor." Watch the performances below and make your own decision.
