It was just another summer week on the Billboard Top 200 chart for the chart week of July 4 for entries by Idol alums.
Once again, Carrie Underwood kicked things off with her current album Carnival Ride coming in at #55 for the week, down two spots from the previous week. The album sold 9.6k copies for the week, up 2% in sales and has now sold 2.905 million copies in all.
The original winner, Kelly Clarkson, was up next with her latest disc All I Ever Wanted, which declined 8% in sales and slid #56-62. The album has moved 621.4k in all including the additional 8.6k it generated this past week. Kellie Pickler's sophomore CD Kellie Pickler was up by 14% in sales and 11 spots to #69. It sold 7.8k for the week and 249.1k in all.
David Cook's self-titled effort followed at #74, down two spots and up 3% from the previous week and sold 7.6k in the period. Its total now sits at 1.184 million. Another Idol rocker, Daughtry, saw its freshman album shoot up 23% sales-wise 12 spots on the chart to #89. Its weekly take was 6.3k and its total is now 4.473 million.
A pair of compilation albums featuring Katharine McPhee were also found on the Billboard 200 for the week, as Chris Botti's Chris Botti Live In Boston fell #109-118 and David Foster's Hit Man re-entered the chart at #197. The albums sold 4.9k and 2.9k and now have totals of 112.3k and 206k, respectively.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Carnival Ride' #53 (6/27/09)
A depleted roster of albums by Idol alums was found on the Billboard Top 200 chart for the chart week of June 27, as a few older entries found themselves off the chart while the rest seemed to continue their slides.
For the first time in a long time, Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride led the pack with another 9.5k copies sold, falling #47-53 thanks to a 10% sales dip. Its total now stands at 2.895 million.
Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted was up next at #56, falling 11 spots from the previous week. Its weekly take of 9.4k was the result of a sales decrease of 11% and adds to its total for a current sum of 612.7k. Another winner, David Cook, followed with his self-titled album, which was also down in the count by 6% and off nine spots to #72. David Cook sold 7.4k copies, putting it at 1.177 million.
Kellie Pickler was in a league of her own, though, as she saw her self-titled album advance #81-80 and rise 3% in sales to 6.8k copies for a total of 241.3k. Look for an even bigger take thanks to her performance at the CMT Music Awards earlier this week. Although Daughtry's album slipped a scant 4% sales-wise and four spots chart-wise to #101, it still moved an additional 5.1k for a total of 4.467 million.
Another album that saw a sales gain this week was Chris Botti's Chris Botti In Boston, which was up #125-108 on the chart and 12% in sales, leading to a weekly take of 4.6k. It has sold 107.4k copies to date.
And Ruben Studdard rounded out the Billboard 200's Idol representation, as his latest effort Love Is was down a hefty 40 spots to #187 and 22% in sales to 2.9k copies, presenting him with only 26.6k copies to date. Look for the album to disappear on the chart next week.

'Idol' BB 200: 'All I Ever Wanted' #41 (6/13/09)
After an exciting week for Idol alums on the Billboard Top 200 chart, things were a little less impressive for the chart week of June 13. Still, 12 alums in all made appearances on the chart, which is a healthy number for this time of year.
Taking the lead this week was Kelly Clarkson, as her latest album All I Ever Wanted dropped one spot to #41 as a result of a 12% sales decline. It sold 11.6k copies for a total of 592.6k.
Another winner, Carrie Underwood, was right behind with her Carnival Ride, which sold 11k copies, down 9% sales-wise. It was also down one spot - to #45 - and now has a total of 2.875 million. And a third winner, David Cook, saw his album just one spot behind Carrie's, down 17 spots from the previous week. The self-titled disc added 10.7k to its total of 1.161 million and witnessed a 36% sales dip for the week.
Next up was almost-winner Adam Lambert, whose collection of Idol studio recordings sold 9.6k for the week, bringing its total to 25.3k after two weeks. It was down 19 points to #52 due to a 39% sales decrease. Adam's counterpart, Kris Allen, saw his studio recordings bundle fall a much heftier distance, as its 62% sales decline caused it to tumble #50-125. An extra 3.9k copies brings its total to 14.1k after two weeks.
One album that has seen positive movement thanks to a new single release from an upcoming album is Daughtry's Daughtry, which came in at #78, up 11 spots from the previous week. It was also up 7% to 6.3k, placing its total at 4.456 million copies. Kellie Pickler similarly saw saw her sophomore album increase its sales over last week's take, with a 2% increase sending it seven spots forward to #83. It sold another 6k for a total of 227.9k.
In its second week on the chart, Ruben Studdard's latest album, Love Is, tumbled 68% to 4.8k copies, down #36-101 on the chart side. It has sold 20.1k copies in its first two weeks of release. Chris Botti's Chris Botti In Boston, which features Katharine McPhee, slipped 13 spots to #124 on the chart due to a 17% sales decline. For the week, it sold 3.9, leading to a total of 98.7k copies.
Up next was Jennifer Hudson, whose debut album dropped two spots to #136 thanks to an 11% slip in sales. It moved another 3.5k and is now at 738.6k in all. Elliott Yamin's latest disc, on the other hand, fell 21 spots with a 21% sales decrease to a weekly take of 3.1k, adding up to a total of 33.6k copies. And David Archuleta rounded things out with his self-titled debut, which moved 2.7k copies, down 6% from the previous week, but managed to skip ahead 10 spots to #183 for a total of 707.6k.

'Idol' BB 200: 'All I Ever Wanted' #20 (5/30/09)
It was not a pretty week for Idol alums on the Billboard Top 200 chart for the chart week of May 30, as their albums took sizable hits for the most part after a few weeks of good gains.
Leading the way was Kelly Clarkson with her latest disc All I Ever Wanted, which slid three spots to #20 after suffering a 25% sales decrease to 17.5k. The album has sold 567.7k in all. Another popular female winner, Carrie Underwood, followed with Carnival Ride, which moved 12.6k copies and witnessed a steeper 34% decline. The album slipped #27-33 on the chart and now has a total of 2.852 million.
Next up was David Cook and his self-titled post-Idol CD, which also was down 34% in sales to 7.9k. Its total stands at 1.134 million and it receded 14 spots to #61 for the week. Following Cook, the other Idol-related rock act, Daughtry, saw its album slide 38% in sales to 7.2k copies, which explains its 16-spot slide to #66.
Last week's debut by an alum, Elliott Yamin's Fight For Love, tumbled 67% to 6.5k for the week, and falling 48 rankings to #74. It has sold 26.5k after two weeks. Chris Botti's live album Chris Botti In Boston sold another 5.2k copies, slipping 42% and #62-89 on the chart. Its total now sits at 90.1k.
Jennifer Hudson's Jennifer Hudson followed at #96, down 10 spots from the previous week, and sold 4.9k copies for the week while decreasing sales-wise by 26% and adding up to a 731.2k. Kellie Pickler's sophomore album actually rose a spot to #106 in the face of a 12% sales dip to 4.7k and now stands at 216k copies.
And David Archuleta finished things off with his self-titled album at #161, down from #119, and sold another 3.2k copies for a total of 702.1k. It was down 37% from the previous week.

'Idol' BB 200: 'All I Ever Wanted' #17 (5/23/09)
Despite the potential for a new debut album from an Idol alum to be recognized as the highest-charting Idol-related entry, the leading lady of the Billboard Top 200 chart once again staved off competition for the chart week of May 23.
When all was said and done, Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted took in another 23.3k copies for a total of 550.2k, which represented a 27% sales increase and a #25-17 jump on the chart side. This Mothers' Day-related bump helped defend against newcomer Fight For Love, Elliott Yamin's sophomore release, which debuted at #26 with 19.9k copies, which was beneath both HDD's estimate of 20.2k and my own prediction of 45k units.
Up next was Carrie Underwood and her Carnival Ride, which was right behind Elliott's album at #27, up two spots from the previous week, and sold another 19.2k. It was up 23% in sales and has sold 2.839 million to date. As for last season's champ, David Cook, his self-titled release shot up 57% to 12.1k. In the rankings, it experienced a 15-spot jump to #47 and its total now sits mightily at 1.126 million copies in all.
Daughtry's debut album saw an insane 305% increase thanks to the band's appearance on last week's Idol results show, which resulted in an additional 11.6k copies being sold for the week. It advanced 127 spots to #50 and its total stands at 4.437 million. Chris Botti's Chris Botti Live In Boston also saw positive movement, albeit not on the same scale, as it increased 34% in sales to 9k and moved up #71-62 on the chart. I has sold 85k in all.
Jennifer Hudson's debut album came in at #86, down one spot from last week, despite a 20% sales spike and 6.7k copies sold for the week. It possesses cumulative sales of 726.3k. And Kellie Pickler's sophomore effort was up 16% in sales to 5.3k copies for a total take of 211.4k. On the chart itself, the album rose #111-107.
The last two Idol-related albums on the chart were David Archuleta's self-titled disc and Mandisa's Freedom. The former sold another 5k, up 21% and two spots to #119 for a total of 698.9k, and the latter moved 4k, up 7% and down 17 spots to #147 for a Billboard total of 14.1k.

'Idol' BB 200: 'All I Ever Wanted' #25 (5/16/09)
After a few days delay, we finally have sales figures for Idol-related entries on the Billboard Top 200 chart for the chart week of May 16.
Once again leading the pack was Kelly Clarkson with her All I Ever Wanted, which slid four spots to #25 despite holding steady at 18.3k copies for the second week in a row. It has now sold 526.9k in all. Following Kelly was Carrie Underwood with Carnival Ride, which dipped 5% in sales and moved another 15.6k copies for the week, bringing its total to 2.820 million. It was down three spots to #29 on the chart side.
David Cook's David Cook came in third for Idol-related entries at #62, down from #55 the previous week thanks to a scant 4% sales drop. It sold 7.7k and has a current total of 1.114 million copies.
Chris Botti's live album Chris Botti In Boston was next with 6.7k copies, down 14% from the previous week, and fell #60-71. Its total is now 75.9k. Jennifer Hudson's self-titled debut came in at #85, down 15 spots from the previous week, with 5.6k copies sold, which was a sales decrease of 20%. It has now sold 719.6k.
Further down the rungs of the Billboard 200's ladder, Kellie Pickler saw her sophomore album gain 19% sales-wise and advance 22 spots to #111 thanks to another 4.6k copies sold, placing its total at 206.1k. And then David Archuleta's self-titled album fell #110-121 with 4.1k copies moved for the week, which was down 10% in sales from the previous week. The album's total now stands at 693.9k.
Mandisa's sophomore album Freedom followed at #130, up drastically from #178 the week prior with a 28% improvement in sales, to 3.8k copies for the week, placing its Billboard total at 12.5k. Daughtry's Daughtry was off 7% and 13 spots to #177 with 2.8k units sold for a grand total of 4.425 million.
And Taylor Hicks' latest effort brought up the rear at #180 as it saw a 148% resurgence in sales thanks to a performance on the Top 5 results show, with 2.8 copies sold for a total of 27.2k.

'Idol' BB 200: 'Carnival Ride' #17 (5/2/09)
For the first time in a while, Carrie Underwood regained the pole Idol-related position on the Billboard Top 200 chart with her sophomore album for the chart week of May 2.
Carnival Ride slipped one spot to #17 with another 19.8k copies sold, down 39% from the previous week. It has sold 2.788 million in all and continues its march with no signs of stopping anytime soon. Following Carrie was Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted, which slipped to the second-highest-charting album for an Idol alum for the first time in its chart life thanks to a hefty 51% drop in sales. It sold 19.4k copies for the week for a total of 490.4k and was down #12-19 on the chart side.
Next up was Jennifer Hudson and her debut album, which rocketed 60 spots to #42 thanks to a 36% sales increase from her performance on last week's Idol results show. It moved an additional 9.4k copies for a total of 707.1k. Chris Botti's CD/DVD combo came in a few spots behind at #46, down from #37 the previous week, with 9.1k units sold. The album, which features a track by Katharine McPhee, was down 44% and has sold 61.5k in all.
One spot behind at #47 was David Cook's David Cook, which fell from #28 the previous week, or a 57% sales drop. It also moved 9.1k copies for a total of 1.098 million. Kellie Pickler's sophomore effort saw a 37% decline in sales to 4k, marking a 19-spot drop to #131. Its total now stands at 197.7k copies.
Next up was Daughtry's debut album, which actually improved #161-160 despite a 23% sales dip to 3.3k copies. It has now totaled 4.420 million. Mandisa's Freedom followed at #181, down from #154 the week before. It moved another 2.9k copies for the week, adding up to a total of 9.7k according to Billboard.
And David Archuleta's debut album rounded things out with a 50-spot drop to #183 with 2.9k copies sold. It was down 47% in sales from week-to-week and has now sold 685.2k in all.

'Idol' BB 200: 'All I Ever Wanted' #12 (4/25/09)
The scene on the latest Billboard Top 200 chart for Idol alums was a pretty good one thanks to Easter weekend, Idol results shows and the ACM Awards.
Advancing two spots to #12 on the chart was Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted, which rose 18% in sales to 39.9k copies. It has sold 471k in all and should just miss going gold next week.
Also seeing positive movement was Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride, which jumped #33-16 thanks to Easter sales and the ACM Awards. It took in 32.3k copies for the week, up 99%, and has totaled 2.768 million. David Cook was next with his self-titled album, which sold 21.4k copies, down 14%, for a total of 1.089 million. On the chart side, it dropped eight spots to #28.
In its second week, Chris Botti's CD/DVD Chris Botti In Boston, which features Katharine McPhee, slipped 24 spots to #37 and decreased in sales by 55% to 16.2k copies. It has sold 52.4k copies after two weeks. Next up was Jennifer Hudson's debut album, which moved another 6.9k copies, down 9% from the previous week, which dropped #89-102. Its total now stands at 697.7k copies and should see a nice increase on next week's chart following Jennifer's big performance on last night's results show.
Kellie Pickler's performance on this week's chart is just a sign of things to come for Jennifer's album, as Kellie Pickler's sophomore album shot up 174% to 6.3k copies, marking a re-entry on the chart at #112. It has sold 193.7k copies since its release last fall. David Archuleta also saw some gains this week, though not on the same scale. David Archuleta improved by 20 spots to #133 and sold another 5.5k copies, up 35%. It has now totaled 682.3k.
Mandisa's Freedom, on the other hand, was down 12% to 4.5k copies for a total of 8.3k copies according to Billboard. On the chart, it was down #123-154. Daughtry's Daughtry, which was #154 last week, slipped further to #161 with 4.3k copies to round out the Idol representation on the Billboard 200. It was up 6% and now has its total sitting at 4.416 million.

HITS estimates: Kelly 41.6k, Carrie 32.7k
The ACM Awards and Easter had a lot of things to do with two Idol alums' sales gains in their respective albums on HITS Daily Double's Top 50 building album sales chart this week.
Leading the charge with a 23% sales increase was Kelly Clarkson, as her latest album All I Ever Wanted took in 41.6k copies for the week, marking a two-spot increase to #12.
Carrie Underwood was the other alum to see her album advance this week, as her Carnival Ride shot up 99% to 32.7k copies, which was a whole 17 spots ahead of last week's chart ranking of #32. This was mostly due to her big win at the ACMs and partially due to her album being a popular gift to fill kids' Easter baskets.
The only other two Idol-related albums on the chart were David Cook's self-titled album, which took in 20.9k with an eight-spot drop to #28 as a result of a 20% sales dip, and Chris Botti's Chris Botti In Boston, which was down 56% to 15.1k copies. The later fell #13-37 on the chart.

Out today: George Huff's 'George Huff'
Season 3's fifth-place finalist George Huff sees his sophomore album released today. The self-titled gospel album, courtesy of Koch Records, marks George's return to the recorded music scene after releasing his debut album Miracles back in October 2005.
The rest of the listings in this week's post were released sometime in the past week. Chris Botti's CD/DVD live album Chris Botti in Boston, which features Katharine McPhee performing "I've Got You Under My Skin," debuted last Tuesday.
Also out one week ago was LaKisha Jones' new single "Let's Go Celebrate," which is off her forthcoming debut album So Glad I'm Me (May 19). And then there are two music videos: David Cook's "Come Back to Me" video and Kellie Pickler's "Best Days of Your Life" video, both of which were out last week.

Katharine McPhee's "I've Got You Under My Skin" airs on PBS
Katharine McPhee's performance of "I've Got You Under My Skin" accompanied by jazz artist Chris Botti from the concert she participated in at Boston's Symphony Hall back on Sept. 18-19, 2008, made its television debut last night on Pittsburgh's PBS affiliate. Watch the performance below:
Katharine looks and sounds as great as ever. In addition to airing on PBS in high definition throughout March, the concert will be sold as Chris Botti in Boston as a CD and a CD/DVD combo. It will be released on Tues., March 31.
