HITS predix: Danny Gokey's 'My Best Days' to debut with 45-50k
With a performance on Idol's results show Thursday in the cards, HITS Daily Double is predicting Danny Gokey's debut album My Best Days to open with numbers between 45-50k. This would put his debut opening week sales below releases from fellow third-place finalists Elliott Yamin (Elliott Yamin, 90k), but ahead of season-mate Allison Iraheta (Just Like You, 32k) and Melinda Doolittle (Coming Back to You, 10.9k) (no numbers were available for Kimberley Locke's debut One Love).
This figure are fairly close to my original prediction of 43k copies. Be sure to be back here next week when Billboard will (hopefully) have final sales data available.

Katharine McPhee performs on 'Regis & Kelly'; HITS predix for 'Unbroken'
Katharine McPhee continued her media tour in support of her sophomore album Unbroken, appearing this morning on Live with Regis and Kelly to perform her single "Had It All." Watch the performance below:
Also out today are sales predictions from HITS Daily Double based on one-day sales. These numbers have Unbroken opening with sales between 13-15k, which would be a bit below my prediction of 20k.

HITS predix: Carrie Underwood's 'Play On' 60-65k
HITS Daily Double revised its sales projections today, and the news is not good for albums by Idol alums.
The only Idol-related album that appears to be headed for sales over 50k is Carrie Underwood's Play On, which should take in around 60-65k copies. This means Adam Lambert's album For Your Entertainment, which opened at #3 with 198k last week, is looking to drop about 75% in its second week, pulling in below 50k copies. This is evidence that Adam's sales last week were inflated by the black Friday shopping period, and his album could be in for even larger declines in the weeks to come.
And newcomer Allison Iraheta's album Just Like You did not have its initial numbers included in the revised update, which means it most likely will debut in the 25-30k range.

HITS predix: Allison Iraheta's 'Just Like You' 25-30k
Contrary to her hair color, things aren't looking so red-hot for Allison Iraheta's debut disc Just Like You, as HITS Daily Double's one-day sales numbers are painting a disappointing but hardly unexpected picture.
HDD has the fourth-place finalist's album debuting with 25-30k copies in its opening week, which is a great deal lower than first week sales of albums from fellow Season 8 finalists Adam Lambert (198k) and Kris Allen (80k). It is expected to be the second highest-selling debut for the week, but should enter the chart at the lower rung of the Top 20. My original prediction of 35k was a little on the high side.
Surprisingly, there were no predictions for any of last week's big debuts besides Susan Boyle, whose I Dreamed a Dream should battle Andrea Bocelli's My Christmas for the #1 spot with around 350k each.

HITS predix: Adam Lambert's 'For Your Entertainment' 210-230k
HITS Daily Double's one-day sales numbers have Adam Lambert's post-Idol debut album For Your Entertainment coming in above most industry expectations.
HDD is predicting Entertainment to pull in between 210-230k in its full seven-day launch period, bolstered most likely from Adam's controversial AMA performance on Sunday and the Black Friday buying bonanza that will happen the day after Thanksgiving. This would put him second to only Susan Boyle's debut LP among new releases, as HDD is expecting new albums from Lady Gaga and Rihanna to net in the 180-200k range.
This figure is fairly higher than my original prediction of 175k, but there's always a chance HDD could be overestimating based on first-day sales. Last year, David Archuleta's debut was overestimated by nearly 40k, while David Cook's album was overestimated by over 20k.
If these numbers hold for Adam, Entertainment will become either the second or third-highest debut week bow for an album from a runner-up, coming in behind debuts from Clay Aiken and possibly Bo Bice.

HITS predix: Kris Allen's 'Kris Allen' 75-80k
According to HITS Daily Double's one-day sales, Kris Allen's album is going to fall below most industry expectations and will most likely be the lowest debut for a post-Idol album from a winner.
According to the numbers, Kris Allen will pull in between 75-80k in its first week, which is even below my pessimistic prediction of 90k. In terms of his competition, some of the usual big selling artists are also coming in a bit under usual standards. Norah Jones's album The Fall will take in 150-160k, while new discs from 50 Cent, Casting Crowns and Andrea Bocelli will all get 140-150k. Leona Lewis's Echo, on the other hand, will probably take in 60-65k.
Be sure to check back on Friday for revised predictions. Hopefully Kris's upcoming appearances will be enough to push the sales a little bit higher.

HITS predix: Carrie Underwood's 'Play On' 140-150k
According to HITS Daily Double's Top 50 building album sales chart, Carrie Underwood's Play On might possibly be able to eke out a second straight week atop the album sales chart.
Despite a crowded field, Play On is expected to be engaged in a four-way fight for the top, each within the vicinity of 140-150k. Carrie's competitors include albums from Bon Jovi, Andrea Bocelli and Michael Jackson.

HITS predix: Carrie Underwood's 'Play On' 320-340k
After originally predicting Carrie Underwood's new album Play On to pull in anywhere between 300-350k in its maiden voyage, HITS Daily Double is now calling for the critically-acclaimed album to take in 320-340k.
Although these numbers are in a more pinpointed window than the original prediction, it shows that many fans' hopes that the album would trend upward going into the weekend are most likely not going to come true.

HITS predix: Carrie Underwood's 'Play On' 300-350k
In a not so surprising turn, HITS Daily Double's sales predictions for the debut of Carrie Underwood's latest album Play On are pegging the disc to come in at No. 1 with somewhere in the vicinity of 300-350k copies.
This guesstimate is pretty much in line with my initial prediction of 365k, and even if Play On hits the lower end of HDD's projections, minimal declines are all but assured considering the promo schedule Carrie has lined up for herself over the next month.
For historical purposes, this release will most likely fall between Carrie's previous album bows, with Some Hearts coming in with 314.5k in November 2005 and Carnival Ride taking in 527.1k in October 2007.

HITS predix: David Archuleta's 'Christmas From the Heart' 18-20k
David Archuleta is the latest Idol alum to have predictions for his album included in HITS Daily Double's first-day sales predictions thanks to strong returns from yesterday.
Arch's Christmas album Christmas From the Heart is expected to pull in between 18-20k copies in its opening week, which would put him below current #1 Michael Buble and other openers like the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack and new albums from Mario and The Flaming Lips. This should hopefully put Arch within the Top 20, but maybe a few ticks out will be the most likely scenario.

HITS predix: 'Battlefield' 50-55k
After originally calling an opening week ballpark figure of 45-50k for Jordin Sparks' sophomore album Battlefield, HITS Daily Double has revised its predictions for the album to a slightly higher 50-55k.
Although this number is potentially 10k higher than what the original prediction was calling for, this is not good news for Jordin or Jive. Battlefield is expected to retain its place in the Top 10, but it is currently tied with Hannah Montana 3 and Now 31, each of which are also expected to pull in 50-55k. When the three Michael Jackson albums are removed from consideration, however, Jordin's chances improve, as she could see Battlefield debut anywhere from #7-5.
Jordin is without a doubt aware of her album's performance, as she tweeted:#iwish I could sell my album for $2.00. Seriously. :)
If these numbers hold, it will be fairly close to my original prediction of 65k. Hopefully things trend upwards for Jordin.

HITS predix: Daughtry 240-260k
HITS Daily Double released its one-day sales estimates for the coming week, and Daughtry's highly anticipated album Leave This Town is expected to knock Michael Jackson out of the top spot. According to HDD:After three straight weeks of Jackomania, yet another American Idol, this one named Daughtry, should be #1 on next week's HITS Top 50 with Leave This Town, his sophomore 19/RCA/RMG album, which will bow in the 240-260k range.
Continuing with my pattern of seriously overestimating first-week sales of new releases by Idol alums, I was way too optimistic with my prediction of 390k copies. Apparently the fact that it is not Thanksgiving week is playing a greater role than I expected, and the amount of promo and built-in fan base will not be enough to place Leave This Town's opening ahead of Daughtry's 304k take back in 2006.
That's based on one-day sales reports from those retailers who still have Michael Jackson catalog on their shelves.
Still, a debut at #1 is nothing to sneeze at, and it is nice that Chris and the guys will be the ones to unseat Jackson from the spot for the first time in a few weeks.

HITS predix: Elliott 15-20k
HITS Daily Double released its one-day sales estimates for the coming week, and Elliott Yamin's sophomore album was included in the forecast. HDD has it debuting at 15-20k for the week:Other promising debuts include Ferret’s Devil Wears Prada, a Dayton, OH, anti-materialist Christian metal-core outfit (25-30k) and Virgin’s Ben Harper and the Relentless7 (20-25k), followed by Hickory American Idol alum Elliott Yamin, Columbia Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts and UMe’s artist formerly kinown as Cat Stevens, Yusuf, all at 15-20k. E1’s Hatebreed round out the newcomers, with a total in the 12-15k range.
This is a far cry from my bold prediction of 45k, which looks a little unrealistic when examining it further. Still, Elliott should be able to do well over time and it should be a consistent seller assuming he can get a hit radio-wise.

HITS predix: Kelly 50-55k
In its updated projections for the Top 10 albums posted yesterday, HITS Daily Double listed Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted as being expected to land at #6, down from #1 the previous two weeks.
It is tied with U2's No Line on the Horizon and Lady Gaga's The Fame, each of which are expected to pull in 50-55k copies for the week. There are no sales predictions from earlier in the week to compare Kelly's numbers with, but if they hold, it would mark about a 40% decrease, which shows stabilization following a 66%+ first to second week drop.

Kelly performs on 'Oprah,' 'GMA'
Kelly Clarkson today continued to promote her album All I Ever Wanted when she appeared on Oprah and a previously-recorded performance aired on Good Morning America. On Oprah, Kelly chatted with the show's host in addition to performing a medley of her greatest hits that included snippets of "Because of You," "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and "My Life Would Suck Without You." Over on ABC's famed morning show, a performance of Kelly's second single off her latest album, "I Do Not Hook Up," which was taped back on Tues., March 10, aired this morning. Watch the performance below:
Meanwhile, HITS Daily Double is hinting at another week at #1 for Kelly with projections residing between 90-100k for the week based on revised predictions released today. That would be a sizable drop from the album's debut week, but it would be considered normal for a big opening nowadays.

HITS predix: Kelly 210-230k
In what promises to be an exciting week on the charts, HITS Daily Double today released its predictions for the first week sales of Kelly Clarkson's latest disc All I Ever Wanted. The magic number is now somewhere between 210-230k, being upped from 200-225k earlier today.
These figures are a good 100k below IDOL LIVE's prediction of 334k, which makes me think the prediction is being underestimated in the face of a few huge appearances this week (Idol's results show tonight and SNL on Saturday). Hopefully things trend upward for her going into the weekend.
As for Taylor Hicks' new album The Distance, HITS neglected to predict any numbers for it, meaning it will most likely finish below the 14k predicted for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (the lowest number HITS lobbed our way in its predictions). That would be on target with IDOL LIVE's prediction of 12k for the gray-haired one.

HITS predix: Cook 125-130k
In their predictions going into the final weekend before Christmas, HITS Daily Double included David Cook's major label debut, pegging it to sell anywhere from 125-130k for the week.
David Cook will be battling it out for the #10 spot with Kanye West's 808s & Heartbreak, venerable compilation series album NOW 29 and Anthony Hamilton's The Point of It All, all of which are trending toward the same total. It would not be a surprise, however, if the actuals are substantially higher than these numbers.

HITS predix: Cook 80-85k
In their revised sales predictions posted earlier today, HITS Daily Double announced that David Cook's album is trending toward a #9-10 finish for its third week.
David Cook is expected to pull in 80-85k for the week, fighting out the High School Musical 3 soundtrack for the ninth spot on the chart. A finish in this vicinity would put his album at 472-77k, which would without a doubt be a healthy number at this stage.

HITS predix: Cook 300k
In their revised sales predictions posted earlier today, HITS Daily Double had no change in its projected numbers for David Cook's self-titled album.
David Cook is still on track for a debut of 300k, which would be very promising. He will fight Nickelback's Dark Horse for the runner-up spot on the chart, as the Canadian band's album is also expected to pull in 300k.
HITS did not release any predictions for David Archuleta's album, which is in its second week of release. The album with the smallest total that received a prediction was AC/DC's new effort, which is looking to rake in 65-70k. Look for David Archuleta to pull in less than that when all is said and done.
