It was a wipeout in IDOL LIVE's 2010 edition of the poll of the week champion series, as readers were asked which 12th (or 13th)-place finalist is their favorite of all nine seasons.
It was most likely due to lack of participation that David Hernandez garnered 72% of all votes cast, which equates to 13 of the 18 votes. No other finalist managed to get more than one vote (5%), which suggests no 12th/13th-place finisher has a solid fan base.
Regardless, David will advance to the final round of the champion series, which we will revisit once all other placements are decided. In the next round, readers will be asked which 11th-place finalist is their favorite of all nine seasons. Voting will be open for exactly one week.

'Idol' odds 'n ends: Danny Gokey chats with Walmart Soundcheck about 'My Best Days'
The following are Idol-related odds and ends that happened this week:
>After an exceptional first week for his debut album My Best Days, Danny Gokey sat down with Walmart Soundcheck to discuss the songs on the album. Watch a teaser of his interview below:

Danny talks about how he thinks "I Will Not Say Goodbye" will change the music industry and that there's an energy he needs to create in the studio whereas when he's in front of the crowd it comes naturally. He also discusses how he was raised in church growing up and his family life in general.
>Former Idol judge Paula Abdul will apparently not be starring as host and judge on ABC's upcoming revival of Star Search. According to RadarOnline.com:
But negotiations with ABC broke down Wednesday night a network source told RadarOnline.com.This is probably for the better, though. Anyone remember Paula's experiment with hosting VH1's Divas special last September? Let's just say it wasn't her shining moment. On the flip side, this opens her up to be a solid contender to serve as judge on Simon Cowell's American version of his hit show X Factor, which comes to FOX in the fall of 2011.
“A deadline was given and no agreement was reached,” the source told RadarOnline.com.
“And she was offered a lot of money.”
The network wants to air the show this season.
As of right now the deal is dead. It is theoretically possible it could be brought back to life but the source said that’s highly unlikely.

>As for news about current Idol judges, Kara DioGuardi was the third judge to appear on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno since Leno returned to latenight, as she sat down on his couch on Monday alongside Terry Bradshaw. Watch her interview segment below:
Kara discussed a few interesting topics, including her father's announcement that he would be running for U.S. senate in New York and who she thinks is the front runner (Big Mike). She said at the beginning of the season she thought it was a girl's year but now thinks it's a guy's year.

Scott recalled his experiences on the Idol tour and told the show's co-hosts about an upcoming trip to Japan and his Christmas show with Alice Cooper.

It has not yet been revealed what Leah plans to do now in terms of music. Jordin will kick off the spring/summer leg of her Battlefield 2010 tour in Atlantic City on Sat., April 24.

Flashback: Leah LaBelle's "You Keep Me Hangin' On"
Leah LaBelle was widely considered to be a true contender on the third season of Idol at the outset, as she was selected as a wild card choice by Paula Abdul. Unfortunately, the then-17-year-old faltered on her most important performance when she took on The Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On" during Top 12 week. Watch the performance below:
Despite her early exit, Leah has gone on to carve out a career in the music industry, taking one step at a time and making friends with some powerful figures and up-and-coming artists like Keri Hilson, Steph Jones and even Jordin Sparks. Leah is definitely one of the faces to watch in terms of new artists that will be rising in the ranks in years to come.

Alums tweet their thoughts on Kanye-Swiftgate
So by now everyone has seen or at least hard about the drama that went down onstage between Taylor Swift and Kanye West at MTV's Video Music Awards this evening. Jordin Sparks' "S.O.S. (Let the Music Play)" music video premieres
After weeks of anticipation, Jordin Sparks' brand-new hot music video for her second single off Battlefield, "S.O.S. (Let the Music Play)," premiered earlier today on MeetMark.com. The video, which follows Jordin in a club scene and includes a somewhat cliched storyline, is the first video for an uptempo song of hers that has required Jordin to show off real dance moves. Watch the video below:
The video, which was directed by Chris Robinson, features a host of familiar faces that surround Jordin in her professional life (anyone spot Leah LaBelle?). The significance of the video premiering on MeetMark.com is because Jordin was the first representative for the newly-launched member-based beauty sales company.
"S.O.S." was originally slated for a radio adds date in early September, but it has since been delayed until Tues., Sept. 29.

Manager: "does not appear" Paula will return for S9
In a story broken by The Los Angeles Times yesterday, Paula Abdul's manager, David Sonenberg, said "it does not appear that she's going to be back on Idol."
Big surprise. Not.
Apparently, Sonenberg claims Fremantle and 19E are being "kind of unconscionable and certainly rude and disrespectful" in not replying to Paula's interest in sticking with the show for a ninth season. This should come as no surprise to Paula, though, as there have been many signs leading up to this point.
First of all, the addition of Kara DioGuardi last August was a punch in the gut to Paula, as she claimed she and Randy were never consulted before Kara was invited on board. During a season of sharing the limelight with Kara, there were stories of Paula pleading with show management to renew her contract while in impromptu meetings in her dressing room, all to no avail.
Also during the show, Paula was most likely not a fan of the headlines Simon Cowell was making for his then-take of $36 million annually from the series, a number that has since been increased exponentially. Paula's puny $2 million per year salary was commonly used as a footnote in these articles, which obviously did not come off looking very good for her. At the completion of the show's eighth season, her contract had still not yet been renewed, but Paula remained optimistic as recently as two weeks ago.
This scenario is something I have seen coming ever since the day Kara was announced as the fourth judge. Season 8 was merely a test run for Kara, and if she did not totally bomb, Paula's spot would be hers for the taking. Since most agree Kara did an average job as judge but she did not blow it, this is apparently good enough for the producers.
Whatever ends up happening, it should be noted that Paula has been a judge on this show for eight years, and without her we would not have had finalists like Trenyce or Leah Labelle, not to mention the countless times Paula's vote was a tiebreaker or at least a counter to Simon's votes in the earlier rounds of the competition.

Poll of the week: David Hernandez kicks off champion series with a win
For the first installment of the second annual IDOL LIVE poll of the week champion series, David Hernandez was the recipient of the title of favorite 13/12th-place finalist of all eight seasons (or all seven seasons that had a Top 12/13).
The seventh season's 12-place finisher scored 21 votes, good for 39% of the 53 votes cast. The next closest finalist was Jorge Nunez of Season 8, as the Puerto Rican contestant garnered 13 votes (24%). Right behind him was his season mate Jasmine Murray, who took in a total of seven votes (13%).
As the winner of this round, David will be back in a few months to vie for the finals of the champion poll series where he will take on much tougher competition.

Will Makar in Boston for Berklee
Season 5's Top 16 semifinalist Will Makar is now enrolled in Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. He began classes earlier this month and is slated to graduate in 2012.
Will is not the first Idol alum to attend the prestigious school, as Season 3 finalists Leah LaBelle (12th place) and John Stevens (6th place) also called Berklee home (John is still attending).
Will currently has a self-titled EP out and is signed to Double Deal Brand Records, the same record label as fellow Season 5 Top 16 semifinalist Ayla Brown.

Keeping up with John Stevens
Idol's signature red-haired crooner John Stevens made the show's third season popular for reasons he probably would not like to remember. After generating such memorable performances as "Crockodile Rock" and "King of the Road," the then-16-year-old delivered spectacles that would make Sanjaya jealous.
But John's vocal talents were the kind that could not been heard on an Elton John track, and so he was given a bad wrap while on the show. Still he was able to finish sixth, which is a testament to his appeal to many across the country. This led to a record deal with Maverick Records in 2005, courtesy of which he released his debut album Red. The album, which was produced by David Foster, did well enough to make it into Billboard's Top 10 Jazz albums chart but failed to muster much in the form of sales, totaling roughly 21k copies since its release.
John's debut single was "Come Fly With Me," a cover of Frank Sinatra's 1957 hit. He also covered Maroon 5's "This Love" and The Beatles' "Here, There and Everywhere."
After departing Maverick, John joined his fellow Season 3 alum Leah LaBelle at Berklee College of Music in Boston where his is now a student and should graduate in 2010.

Leah LaBelle featured in new Keri Hilson video
Leah LaBelle, Season 3's 12th-place finalist, has managed to appear in Keri Hilson's new music video for her song "Turnin' Me On" as a backup dancer. Watch the video below (Leah is the one on *your* right in the scenes with Hilson and the two dancers):
Lil' Wayne is also featured in the video. Leah has previously covered Hilson's single "Energy" on her official YouTube channel.

Melissa McGhee lost on the fifth season of Idol as soon as she made it to the Top 12, but she did win this week's poll of the week with a resounding four votes, good for 33 percent. Out of an embarrassing total of 12 votes, the next closest competitor was Season 7's David Hernandez, taking 3 votes (25%).

Keeping up with Leah LaBelle
Leah LaBelle, Paula's wild card pick back on Season 3 of Idol, had a short stay on the show, placing 12th. But she has been smart with her post-Idol career, which has all the markings of big things to come.
Leah, who was born to Bulgarian parents and former pop group members Troshan and Anastasia Vladowski, is currently attending Berklee College of Music in Boston. She chose to hone her craft by going to school rather than jump right into the music industry, which was a very savvy idea.
Leah has found a new friend in YouTube, on which she has established a new channel dedicated to reminding fans (and gaining new ones) of her R&B sound. In total, she has recorded five videos, not including a cover of J. Holiday's "Bed" that used to be on her channel and featured up-and-coming R&B singer Steph Jones, who is on Def Jam with Ludacris' Disturbing tha Peace Records.
Below is one of her latest attempts at showcasing her unique vocals, this time on Rihanna's current hit single "Take a Bow." The video was uploaded on April 24.
