After more than two and a half years of regularly blogging about all things Idol, I am announcing that IDOL LIVE will be put on hiatus indefinitely. Considering my love for this show has been waning ever since Season 5 and I am just starting my final, most challenging semester of college, I don't have the time, nor the drive, to continue with my regular blogging duties.
The quality of this past season didn't help matters, as I almost ended IDOL LIVE immediately following the end of the season, but decided to carry on in case anything interesting happened (and technically, the Fantasia episode warranted my decision to stick with it). But as Idol enters its 10th season as a shadow of its former self, I think it's better to stop now rather than sit and watch the Titanic's deck chairs rearranged one last time.
Who knows, maybe by the time Simon's The X Factor debuts next fall I will be back on the blogging bandwagon? But for now, I'll be sitting on the sidelines and observing from a quieter perch. To all of you who have read my posts, commented and contributed your own material over the years, I sincerely thank you for your interest. You are what kept me going.

Special commentary re: Siobhan Magnus
Even though she was never one of my favorites, I respected Siobhan's fearlessness and the way she was able to switch up her performance styles from week to week. It was also cool that a fellow Massachusetts resident was able to make it as far as she did. And then she just seemed like an all around cool person to hang out with. Sadly, however, it was not her title to earn, but it's really frustrating that the likes of Aaron Kelly and Mike Lynche have now outlasted her. They are two of the most overrated contestants of the season, and the fact that they're still there is inexplicable.
Regardless, Siobhan should go on to bigger and better things, most likely on Broadway, and Randy Jackson was right to tell her to be herself. If she does just that, things should go quite well for Season 9's spunky firecracker with a distinguished screech.
P.S. this season blows big time.

Judges using the save on Mike was the right move
But for one reason and one reason only - we will no longer have to worry about the judges using their gimmick of an excuse for power to save a singer no one really cares about anyway because this season is awful.
Don't get me wrong, Big Mike is a great guy and seems like he'd be fun to hang around, but even the judges realize how much of a failure this season has been so they're throwing in the towel and washing their hands of this ridiculous power. If they didn't do so, they would most likely get accused of being unfair for not using it on someone else or some other dumb complaint.
Alright, I'm done with my rant. Back to your regularly scheduled programming!

Re: lack of posting recently
Just a quick word to all readers of IDOL LIVE: there's been a lack of consistent posting here over the past week, and there's a reason for it. I have been involved in something much bigger than Idol, and so I have had less time to spend posting about all things Idol. Once tomorrow passes, however, things should be getting back to a normal schedule. This is only a temporary disruption.
Still, there will be no live coverage of tonight's auditions episode in Chicago, so this is just a notification of that. Be sure to be back here on Wednesday, though, as I should be back in time to discuss that (hopefully) exciting episode.
Again, my apologies for this disruption. Thanks for understanding.

Happy New Year from IDOL LIVE
Now that 2010 is officially here, IDOL LIVE would like to wish everyone a happy and safe New Year. To celebrate, enjoy last night's Idol action from television specials in case you were out partying.
As usual, Ryan Seacrest helmed Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve special on ABC, where he was aided by Dick Clark himself and Times Square correspondent Melissa Rycroft. In the segment below, watch Paula Abdul wish Clark a happy new year in a taped clip at 2:56.
Also making an appearance on the special was Daughtry, as the band performed a bunch of hits including "No Surprise," "Home" and current single "Life After You," which can be viewed below:
Meanwhile, over on FOX a few familiar faces were found performing, as Allison Iraheta and Kris Allen took part in Billboard's New Year's Eve Live special. Kris performed "Live Like We're Dying" and "Can't Stay Away." Allison performed "Friday I'll Be Over You" and "Holiday," which can be watched below:
Hopefully 2010 will be more exciting than 2009 (not that '09 wasn't exciting, but it's always good to improve!)

Message to FOX: No fourth judge
Now that word has been circulating that FOX is interested in permanently replacing Paula Abdul for the ninth season of Idol, it should be expressed that there is absolutely no need for another fourth judge.
The laundry list of reasons why this would be unnecessary and even downright irresponsible is lengthy, but there are a few major reasons that stick out above the rest. First of all, do the producers not recall how many times performance episodes ran over thanks to the extra set of critiques that were needed after each performance? Whose fault was that again? Yeah, it was your fault by the extension of Kara DioGuardi and her babbling. Remember the time Adam Lambert's performance of "Mad World" went over the broadcast's allotted time during Top 8 week? And then the next week, only two judges were allowed to critique each performance, and the overtime still amounted to two minutes? That is not a professional way to run a show.
And then of course there's the whole notion that hearing an extra critique per contestant does not affect much in terms of swaying voters to vote one way or another, it usually only reinforces one of the other judges' opinions. Plus, during auditions and in Hollywood it is Simon who gets to make the final decision when the four of them reach a stalemate. Even though he probably merits this power thanks to his role in the show's production and his stature, it is still annoying that he not only has a contract worth millions upon millions more than his fellow judges and this additional perk is solely at his discretion and he could potentially (and probably already has) denied someone a ticket to Hollywood because he just "didn't like them."
So unless the plan is to fire Kara and replace her with someone who doesn't care so much about "artistry" or to do away with Randy's role after the next "dude" or "dawg" he drops, there should be no new faces appearing on this show come Season 9. None.
Hopefully Simon Fuller & co. take note.

IDOL LIVE's one-year anniversary
I would like to take this time to thank everyone for visiting IDOL LIVE over the past year. Your comments, loyalty, and input has been greatly appreciated and hopefully you will continue to support this site over the course of the next year. I would not be keeping up with all things Idol like this if I didn't think it served a purpose to fans of the show and its contestants, so thanks again for showing interest.

Happy New Year from IDOL LIVE
We here at IDOL LIVE would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe new year. 2009 looks like it will be a bit rough at the outset, but hopefully things will improve as we progress. But regardless of what happens, we will still be here to report on all things Idol and truly appreciate your continuing interest and support.
Don't forget to be back here on Tues., Jan. 13at 8 p.m. ET for the first live blog of the season. There will be many improvements using the software and hopefully we will have an even greater showing than we did for last season.

IDOL LIVE gets a makeover
As you may have noticed, IDOL LIVE's layout has been redone in anticipation of what is looking to be a very promising new year. In addition to the layout, there will be a few exciting new features that will be popping up on the site, the first of which is the incorporation of our very own Google group, which can be found here.
On the group, readers can join to be connected with IDOL LIVE in a more efficient way to post feedback, tips & tidbits of what could make good stories for the site and a generally more interactive community setting for readers to converse in. It will also be used as a way to send out breaking news alerts to all members in a more effective manner.
Also coming in the next few weeks is the all important IDOL LIVE blogcast for all American Idol episodes powered by CoverItLive, which will include a host of new improvements to make the blogcasts run as smoothly as possible.
So in order to raise awareness for the upcoming season of Idol it would be helpful if everyone could spread the word around the net and hopefully we can have a great showing for Season 8!
