It was unveiled today on Katharine McPhee's official MySpace blog that she will be performing as part of an all-star ensemble at Lionel Richie's "An Evening of Stars" gala, which will honor Richie with the "Award of Excellence" courtesy of the United Negro College Fund. Per the blog post:The Award of Excellence, which he will accept the night of the gala, is for the musician’s long and distinguished career as a singer-songwriter-producer and for his history of supporting minority education.
Other artists set to perform at the event include Akon, Jesse McCartney, Natalie Cole and Chrisette Michele. The event will be held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Sat., Sept. 12, in Pasadena, Calif., and will be filmed for broadcast on BET in addition to other various local networks in January 2010.

Jennifer Hudson performs at Patti LaBelle tribute
Jennifer Hudson participated in a tribute to Patti LaBelle for UNCF's "An Evening of Stars" that aired last night on many affiliates across the nation. Watch her performance of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" below:
Although one might think Jennifer was holding out until the Super Bowl to make a public appearance following her family tragedy last October, this special was actually filmed on Sept. 13, 2008. Fantasia also performed.
