'Idol' odds 'n ends: Michael Johns visits 'Good Day LA'
The following are Idol-related odds and ends that happened this week:
>Michael Johns took time to visit the guys over on Good Day LA on Wednesday for an interview with Jillian Reynolds & Co. Watch the interview below:
Throughout the interview, clips of Michael performing his new single "Heart On My Sleeve" from Jillian's other show, American Idol Extra, were shown.
>Jennifer Hudson returned to her hometown of Chicago Monday on a leg of her tour with Robin Thicke at the Arie Crown Theatre at McCormick Place. According to a review by The Chicago Tribune, she told the audience:
"I don't need to ask if there are any fighters in Chicago...'Cause that's where I'm from. And I know I'm a fighter."
Jennifer also dedicated her song "You Pulled Me Through" to her family members that were in the audience.
>Even though it seems like "I Do Not Hook Up" is just really starting to heat up the charts, Kelly Clarkson announced at a show in Tucson, Ariz., at the Last Smash Platinum Bash that "Already Gone" would be her third single off All I Ever Wanted. Watch her performance of the song at the show below:
Although conventional wisdom said "Cry" would be the third single off the disc, it seems the release will be satisfying the quota to release a Ryan Tedder track.
>Paris Bennett recently did a photo shoot with 13twentythree Photography for her upcoming album release. She is inviting fans to give their input as to which photo should be used as her album cover. See a montage of her shots below:
The song playing as the backing track is one of Paris' new songs called "Wide Open."
>With all the speculation floating around that Paula will be the judge to bite the dust following the conclusion of Idol's eighth season, that attention might be concentrated on the wrong target. Kara DioGuardi recently told TV Guide the following about the prospects of her returning for Season 9:
"I'm only here for one season....That's what we've discussed. So we'll see what happens."
It would not be a major shock for her to leave considering all the things the inconveniences that have taken place due to the addition of a fourth job.

Newsflash: 'Idol' group performances really are lipped
It was revealed today by a spokesman for Idol that (brace yourselves) *gasp* the group performances on the results shows use a pre-recorded track and requires the finalists to lip-synch. This confirms what many fans have suspected beginning a few weeks back. Per an article that was published on FOXNews.com, the spokesman said:
“Due to extensive choreography and to balance their voices with open mics against a screaming audience, the Idols do sing along to their own prerecorded vocal track during the group performances only," a rep for the show told "The New York Times," reiterating that all of the solo performances were 100 percent live.
This makes Justin Guarini look especially good, because the TV Guide Channel host is the person closest to the show that first pointed it out publicly when he told his Idol Wrap co-host Kimberly Caldwell:
"Every single year, we cannot stand the group performances. I know they can't stand it either. And I think what makes [the group performances] even worse now is that they're lip-synced. They're really prerecorded now."
So what's the story here? That Idol lied by trying to cover up the obvious? Big deal, very little about this show is "real" anymore. Each year it becomes more professional and loses its luster, and this season is no different.

The "Dadchuleta" saga continues
By now, the story about David Archuleta's dad, Jeff, being banned from going backstage with his son during the show's performance episodes has been covered by every media outlet from TMZ.com to Good Morning America and everything in between. Idol judges have also spoken out about the controversy, but have offered little insight into the specifics surrounding the whirlwind.
Randy Jackson today told The Canadian Press the judges do not have much interaction with the contestants, never mind any time with them backstage. He also shrugged off the story, saying it was more of a media creation.
"I think there's probably more of a press story there than a reality."
Simon Cowell also told Extra! he is not sure what all the fuss is about.
"To be fair to him, I don't really see him -- I don't know what he does. He hasn't said anything to me."
Now, David is finally speaking out about the whole ordeal. In a feature article on the Top 3 finalists in this week's edition of TV Guide magazine, David says the following:
"I've heard some of the weird things that people have been saying, and it's kind of a bummer," he says, not gigging at all. "I think I, of all people, would know what's going on, and he's been great. He's given me a lot of good advice and helped me from making any dumb decisions. He understands more than anyone what I want in music, and I've felt really blessed to have someone like that.It will be interesting to see how this is addressed, if at all, during tomorrow's performance show.
David seems a bit worked up now. "I don't really care what people say," he continues, "but I know it's affected him and stressed him out." As for reports that his dad withheld water from him during a recording session, the Idol insists, "That's kind of stupid. I'm 17! I think I'd be able to stand up for myself if he were to take my water away."
