Blake Lewis dropped by label

Idol's track record for churning out success stories is slowly skewing more negative than positive, and now Blake Lewis is the latest casualty. Blake, who was runner-up on Season 6, announced in an interview with internet radio show Maximum Threshold that he was let go by his label, Arista Records, two days ago. Blake is now the fastest Idol alum to be let go from his contract, as he was signed only last August. Season 1's runner-up Justin Guarini was at least able to last more than one year with his contract. Blake joins other alums recently let go like Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee and Ruben Studdard.

They're not interested in developing talent, they're interested in immediate profit, and Blake's record sales didn't bring that.
I think that most of the time they have no interest in signing these singers, but they're contractually obligated to do so. So they release an album, give it the minimum amount of promotion, and then drop them as soon as possible.
