Digital sales roundup: "Already Gone" #23 (12/12/09)

Digital track sales by Idol alums received a boost for the most part thanks to appearances made at the 2009 American Music Awards as evidenced on the latest edition of Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart.

Selling the most downloads was once again Kelly Clarkson's "Already Gone," which rebounded #24-23 thanks to a 16% sales climb to 53.5k. Kelly's heartfelt performance of the song at the AMAs allowed its total to increase to 809.6k to date, and it will most likely pass the million mark before year's end.

Dropping three spots to #24 was Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova," which witnessed a smaller bump in sales (just 1%) after a similar AMA performance. It sold 51.7k for the week and has sold 609.3k in all.

The greatest Idol-related beneficiary of the AMAs however was Adam Lambert, as his controversial performance of "For Your Entertainment" rocketed the struggling single ahead 40 spots to #35 after a 98% sales spike to 38.5k. Its total now sits at 102.4k. Adam also saw his new single "Whataya Want From Me" debut on the chart at #138 with 11.2k (total is 11.9k including street date violations).

Kris Allen's "Live Like We're Dying" was down 12% after his album's release week passed, selling another 31.3k for the week. The singles was down nine spots to #43 and has sold 186.7k to date. Daughtry was the final Idol alum to receive a boost from the AMAs, as its latest single "Life After You" was up 147% in sales to 11.7k downloads, allowing it to debut at #132 on the chart. It has sold 43.7k to date.
