Idols have shot at VMA nominations

The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards are still six weeks away, but two categories are now open to the general public to vote for their favorite artists and their videos - Best Female Video and Best Male Video. Some of the more surprising entries to choose from include Jennifer Hudson, whose video for "Spotlight" just came out weeks ago, and Paula Abdul, who really does not deserve anything for her video of "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow." Below are all of the Idol-related nominees and their videos. The rest of the categories' nominees will be announced sometime over the course of the next month.

Best Female Video
Carrie Underwood, "Last Name"
Jennifer Hudson, "Spotlight"
Jordin Sparks, "No Air" / "One Step At a Time"
Katharine McPhee, "Love Story"
Paula Abdul, "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow"

Best Male Video
Blake Lewis, "Break Anotha"

The VMAs will air live on MTV on Sun., Sept. 7 at 9 p.m. ET.
