Digital sales roundup: "We Are the World" #1 (2/27/10)

Once again my usual source for Idol-related tracks on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart is on vacation, so we'll have to analyze rounded numbers courtesy of Brian Mansfield over at "Idol Chatter" instead.

The charity remake "We Are the World" easily took the top spot this week, selling 267k downloads. The single features the vocals of Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks and Katharine McPhee in addition to some 70-something other artists.

Back into familiar territory, Kris Allen's single "Live Like We're Dying" was up three spots to #21 with another 66k sold this week. It was up 15% and has now sold an impressive 871k with no signs of stopping anytime soon. There was another debut on the chart with the official "Pants on the Ground" single courtesy of General Larry Platt coming in at #22 with 63k copies. After a few ripoffs made their way on the chart, the general now boasts a total of 65k for his original tune.

Next up was Adam Lambert's "Whataya Want From Me," which advanced #36-34 thanks to a 6% sales incline to 52k. It now has sold 425k in all. Meanwhile, Daughtry also saw its latest single "Life After You" move in a positive direction, as it jumped 11 spots to #51 and rose 14% in sales. It sold 34k for the week, adding to its total of 404k.

And Carrie Underwood rounded out Idol representation with her singles "Cowboy Casanova" and "Temporary Home." The former was down 9% in sales to 30k and fell #53-59 for a total of 1.147 million, will the latter debuted at #67 thanks to an 8% sales climb to 27k for a current total of 197k.

There are also two off the chart tracks of interest, as the "Didi Benami effect" sent Katharine McPhee's "Terrified" surging to 20k for a 22k total and Kelly Clarkson's "Already Gone" pulled in another 18k, down 14%, to 1.225 million.
