Paula admits to drug addiction (who knew!?)

Paula Abdul finally came clean today about her history with drug addiction when news of her feature story in the June 2009 issue of Ladies' Home Journal broke. As reported by PopEater.com:

Abdul revealed that all the drugs combined made her very restless and even led to last year's controversy when many thought she looked loopy and high while on 'American Idol.'

"I'd been working nonstop, [but] the show must go on. I'm an old school professional," she said. "I didn't want anyone to count me out. I tried to keep everything hush-hush."
While this news comes as no surprise (hmm, maybe Daughtry should dedicated its performance of its single to Paula tomorrow night?) and we all hope Paula can get well, nothing will change the fact that Paula lied to us all these years, even lying to a national audience as recently as April 23 to Cynthia McFadden on ABC's Nightline about never being addicted to drugs in her life. Not only this, but Paula came out and tried to discredit McFadden via her Twitter account the following day:

Disappointed that Cynthia tried SO HARD on Nightline to make it look like I'm on drugs & alcohol. U know it's not true. THX 4 yr support!

The sad part of all of this is Paula will be seen as a victim of her own poor choices and will receive a wave of sympathy from the media, but she really does not deserve that. Yes it is a tragic thing that has happened to her and she needs moral support in this troubling time, but for her to sit there with a straight face time after time and lie to everyone, and then to make Simon look like the bad guy for "making stuff up" about the whole ordeal is just irresponsible of her.

News this morning also broke regarding Paula's premiere of new music in a performance on tomorrow's Idol results show. She will perform for the first time in the show's history, choosing to belt out her new single "(I'm Just) Here For the Music," which was premiered on Ryan Seacrest's morning show on KIIS-FM at 7:30 a.m.

The test will be whether Paula opts to lip the performance. IDOL LIVE is putting money on the affirmative.
