'Idol' BB 200: 'David Archuleta' #2 (11/29/08)

New life was breathed into the Billboard Top 200 album chart for the chart week of Nov. 29 thanks to the release of David Archuleta's debut album. David Archuleta led all Idol-related albums on the chart by coming in at #2 with 182.9k copies for a total of 183.1k thanks to 200 copies sold through street date violations.

This meant Jennifer Hudson had to settle for second place among Idol alums, as her debut album was down 18% to 21.6k copies for the week, putting its total at 434.6k. It took a sizable drop on the chart, falling #16-33. Carrie Underwood on the other hand had an excellent showing thanks to her big night at the CMA Awards, as Carnival Ride sold 21.1k copies, up 80% from the previous week. It ricocheted 15 spots to #34 and now stands at 2.432 million.

Another new entry on the chart was David Foster's CD/DVD Hit Man: David Foster & Friends, which features live audio and video tracks from Katharine McPhee and Michael Johns. The album netted 15.2k copies, placing it at #46 for the week. Kellie Pickler followed with Kellie Pickler, which also was aided by the CMAs. The album increased 46% with 8.8k copies, placing its total just north of the century mark and causing a 12-spot jump to #78.

The final two Idol-related entries on the chart were once again mainstays Daughtry and Jordin Sparks. The former fell #94-107 with 6.4k copies, up 11% from the previous week while the latter fell #154-188 with 3.7k copies, down fractionally from the previous week.
